As most of you know, we have been trying to get our Yenko Camaro into the 12s and still remain "factory stock". Well, last night at Gateway, under less then ideal conditions, Rob ran a 12.95. Tom

Well, like dad said, it finally did it! [email protected] on a a very "average" 2.045 60' time. [Note: it's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G how much better a car runs when you can keep the rocker arms on!]

I didn't get to tune ANY on the car, so like Pete said, there may still be some more in the car. I waited in the lanes for 2.5 hours before my first pass, and naturally the water box was a mess, and they had a trash can sitting in the way...so no going around. Crappy burnout, then start to pull to the line...nope, the starter makes me stop...decides he had better sweep my lane for some reason. So, needless to say, all the heat in my tires now leaves. But, I managed to leave cleaner than expected, and pulled pretty good on the big end.

After I got my slip, I was fired up, and wanted to get back through the lanes to make another pass. So, I pull back through...hot dang...they call our lanes and I just keep pulling through. I was the second car back in my lane, and there were only about 8 bikes that had to run before I could try it again. SWEET! Right after the bikes run, a big tire car that wouldn't start before it's run and was pushed to the side is allowed to run. Naturally, he breaks early, and oils down BOTH lanes. So, I kill 45 minutes under the tower, answering the old standby question "is it real?". I do another crappy burnout, stage, take off, and break the tires loose BIG TIME in second. So, I run a slower [email protected], but as I'm heading back to the lanes, I hear the announcer say that no more runs can be made, because the track is too cold. Great...5 hour drive (1 way) for 2 runs. BUT, I got my 12! So life is good... http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/burnout.gif

A Breeze? You mean there was a big tailwind? http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/laugh.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/laugh.gif

I wish I had gotten their a little earlier (some serious road construction on I-44), and tuned on it a little bit. Nothing major, just jets, timing, and valves! I think I could have improved a little bit on the 12.951, but hey...I'll take it!

Congrats, Tom and Rob, Getting into the 12's with any stock car is a major deal. To bad you did not get any more run's. Sometimes the old saying is true , new track, new crew, same old Gateway.

Hey, sixpack...is Wentzville a 1/4 mile track? And, how do the times compare to Gateway?

rob, Wentzville is a 1/4 mile, It hooks pretty well, I ran 11.53 there in my 69
6barrel Road runner and 11.51 at Gateway under similar condition's. Wentzville run's Saturday and Sunday usually, Sat gates open 8 or 9 am and the run Elim's about 2-3 PM.
They have a Street tire and a slick tire trophy class, If I were you I would try one
of those, maybe get a few more time runs.
Phone is 636-639-6465... Good Luck

Rob, do you have to run polyglas in this class or could you run a drag radial or a DOT tire like McCreary. This would still be a "street tire" but woul probably improve the time by 1/2 sec. or more. I ran a turbocharged small block Nova that I also drove to work and ran a best of 11.97 @ 119.50 on McCreary's. I am not up on the Street Car requirements. Congratulations on the 12 sec run on these tires!!!

Larry:

Thanks for the info! I probably won't get there this weekend, but may try it next week. What kind of turnout do they get? I can handle the wait, but the crowd at Gateway was almost silly.

Nope on the tires. You've either got to run the repros (Polyglass, Wide Ovals, redlines, etc.) or a "normal" radial tire. No wanna be slicks (Nittos, ETs, BFG DRs, etc.) are allowed, and they will durometer tires.

Rob

They get quite a few cars but they run through them a lot quicker than Gateway does.

Let me know when you go , If ATT doesn't need me to waste my time here, I'd like to meet you guys. I would like to get a few more run's in one of my car's before the year end's myself

I'm looking hard at next weekend, but I've got to get to west Texas some time this week, so a lot depends on that. I will definetly let you know if I head up there. But, looking at the weather this evening, it looks like it's going to be pretty cool starting around Thursday...like 50's for highs.
