what kind of ET and MPH was a yenko duece capable of with headers, slicks and a little fine tuning. the reason I ask is I will probably be purchasing a 71 LT-1 and want to put it in a nova with a 4 speed and 4.11 gears. thanx mike

I couldn't get the link to work, but if my memory is correct, that link goes to the article about CopoPete's 3 COPO cars. It seems like his Nova was in the low 13s on the Polyglass, and broke into the 12s on drag radials. This seems pretty consistent with a good running LT-1 Nova. The '70 LT-1 cars were pretty much a preview of things to come, with that being the new LT-1/LS-1 cars, which are also legit low-mid 13 second cars.

You shouldn't have any problems getting into the twelves provide you have some gear.

So, Pete:
When is that silver pretty of yours gonna come out and play again? http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gifIt would be neat to see a legit pure stock small block car break into the 12s...

rat;
A stock 4 speed Yenko Deuce Nova will generally run in the high 13's with stock tires, suspension, full exhaust and smog. (I believe Petes COPO Nova was running without the smog at that pure stock drags against the Yenko Nova a few years ago, and might account for the slightly quicker times). This combination can run in the mid 13's and possibly 13.20's in optimum conditions. The mph with this stock configuration is generally in 101-102 range, with 106+ in optimum conditions.
A Yenko Nova with open headers, 8 inch slicks, and 'J'hook traction bars has run a 12.39 without tuning. I think low 12's are surely within range after some good tuning. I do not know of anyone currently running one of these cars with this combination, so it is hard to tell exactly what they can do.
If you have the rear sway bar option on your Nova, it's worth almost a tenth in the 60' time with stock tires.
Hope this helps,
Marlin

I think it would be pretty cool to see Pete's Nova and Casey's W-31 duke it out!
I would rather see that matchup than the ole' "Buick vs. Hemi" any day http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif!

OH GREAT !!!
It's not gonna come to a drag strip near me that's in Ohio, is it ?? You really need to work on that white COPO to compete with those SA boyz instead. Leave me and my harmless Lansing ride alone. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I picture you in a Camaro anyway ..... you don't look as good in a Nova......yea, that's it. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/laugh.gif

I pulled the old MCR article from 1997, Pete's COPO Nova ran a best of 13.79 @ 101.94. In 1998, Pete's COPO Nova ran a best of 13.64 @ 101.47, and Neal Robbin's Yenko Nova ran a best of 13.81 @ 102.06. To my knowledge, 1998 was the last year a COPO Nova was run at the pure stock drags.
The best times so far were Pete's drag radial test session where he was running in the 13.20's (I think) with belted rubber, and Neal's time of 13.45 @ 106+.

Yes,12.9 on drag radials and 13.22 on poly's are my best so far! But there is more. Anyone got a Michigan map! http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Yep - see, the Nova is faster ..... you can just rest easy, and FOCUS on the Camaro. I bet that white COPO would look REALLY nice up against those other SA cars ..... you should really not worry about the Nova, it will always be there ..... that Camaro needs to spank some more folks. << Focus - Focus - Focus >> http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

The problem with the deuces, like most stock cars, is in the 60' time. One theory we are kicking around is to change the Holley pump cam profile to one that is leaner / slower / smoother at lower RPM, this way it doesn't hit the tires so hard and make them spin. The 780 Holley is WAY too big for the LT1, we could go faster if we could decrease the venturi's and increase the velocity / efficiency. (or so our theory goes!)
We need someone to to dyno their LT1 with the 780, and then swap on a 600 or 650 Holley. Anyone?? Bueller, Bueller, BuPETEller!!

Marlin .... you can stop already !!!
Pete is quite content with his BB cars .... us SB guys are like box-elder bugs ..... always around, and you can't get rid of us.
Pete doesn't have time to spend on that LT-1, he has chickens to raise - - mold in their adulthood - - make them into pure, wholesome poultry for our consumption..... http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/laugh.gif He need not bother himself with sucha trivial endeavor as dyno'ing an LT-1 .... we all know it's fast. Let's just leave it at that ...... PLEASE !!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

"But wait, there's more" (Dutch Mandell, R&T television).
The theory goes that 1lb. reduced of rotating mass is equivalent to 4+lbs of static weight (?). I have visions of installing a late model 1lE driveshaft to see what the gain is, and installing early '80's Malibu/Monte Carlo aluminum brake drums (2lbs. vs. 5+) on the rear. How about indexing spark plugs, spiral grooves in the exhaust manifolds, ???

Those drums can be found on that era "S" truck too. My grandmother's 85 G-body Cutlass had them as well. Not that I know any of those GM tricks ...... 'member, I'm just a Mopar guy ..... http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
