I just received this issue in the mail, today. The main headliner is, "Factory Freaks." So is this the last one or can we expect a farewell issue? I haven't gone through it yet, but will savor it even more with the knowledge that the end is near. --Bullitt

Yep, that's it. Some farewell, huh?! What sucks is that the Pure Stock Drags and the Certified Stock article were due to come out (and our Camaro was to be in both), as usual, in the March issue...but MCR came up 1 issue too short http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif. The story of my life...
Sorry to hear that "Rob" as I really look forward to the Pure Stock race results and all the cars including your very nice Camaro and I hope some mag publishes the results as it great reading about all the shootouts! Maybe my last issue will come tomorrow! Ron

You're right, Ron, it does suck. It doesn't suck because our car won't be in the mag, but it sucks because MCR, as we know it, is no more http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif. This STILL has me bummed out.

Just got back from the magazine store with the only (4) copies they had on the stand of Jan. '02. Get 'em while they're hot !! http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif
Your right Casey..
They just arrived Monday at my local magazine store in town. They had 6 customers come in for them already. They only have two issues left on the shelf.
Seems the word is spreading...

The Harrell Chevelle issue is still on the stand around here, but my issue seemed to come in real early. I guess we know why. So, is there any update to what will become of MCR, annual or bi-annual? What is Tom Shaw going to do now? What other car magazines are Primedia going to send to the guillotine? I kind of don't want to read my last issue right now, because I dread flipping over that last page. It use to be that I would take a break from wrenching to read MCR, or just take a break from the world and get lost reading about the forgotten stories of the musclecar era. There's not a magazine I can think of, that'll replace what we have lost. There are just too many magazines that focus only one make and not one that celebrates the wide variety of them all. I've never been dedicated to any car manufaturer, exclusively. Instead, I always found most musclecars very alluring in their own right. The first piece of heavy Detroit iron I ever saw was a '70 Mach1 Mustang, for crying out loud. I have a subscription to Car Craft, Super Chevy, Autosport and will pick up any other interesting magazine like the new Chevy Rumble, but it isn't the same. With everything that has gone wrong this year, this is just another shot to the heart. I don't mean to wax poetic, but I just feel pretty damn bad. Will some other publisher, PLEASE step up to the plate?!!!!! --Bullitt

I will say:
*No small article about what is coming out in next months issue on the last page.
*A tribute to Hemi presented by HOTROD with a promotion for there magazine subscription.
* There isn't any Renewal cards in mine either, but on page 5 they do mention MCR renewal rates. And on page 50 it is also mentioned at the bottom of the page next to Joe Swezeys cover shot.
Did I win a subscription to MCR????
I just want to say how odd Tom Shaws article is this month. He doesn't ever come out and say Goodbye, and yet you can get the feeling he is...weird.

I wish we had our issue so we could play along!
Andrew:
Your friend's luck is a lot like mine. I felt it was gonna be pretty neat to have our car covered as part of the 1st ever Certified Stock tech, but we all know how it turned out http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif. I didn't tear down then rebuild the engine in Scott's shop just for the magazine coverage, but it sure wouldn't have hurt!

The lead time on the magazine is close to six weeks. I think that Toms intro was written well in advance of MCR's end. I will miss the feeling I got every time the new MCR came out. No other magazine had my interest like MCR. I have not had any conversation with Tom since. He called the day after the WTC disaster to check up on us since we were so close to the PA crash site. I hope to hear from him soon. If I do I will post what I learn...BKH

I posted this on the *Pure Stock* forum on the Buick board, but I'll see if my Chevy-buds http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif notice two VERY distinctive differences in this issue than I think I've seen in any other issue of MCR ??
(Besides the fact that not ONE of the FOUR that I bought had a subscription card in it !!) http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/crazy.gif

Hey Rob,
You are not alone! My buddy Dave (owns a custom paint shop) did an article for "Mustang Illustrated" which was McMullen Argus' "vintage" Mustang magazine. He spent three days sanding, prepping and painting a car for a tech article. He had to continually stop for photos and explanations. Well when the Primedia deal went thru they nixed "Mustang Illustated" along with Dave's work (which of course he was not and will not ever be reimbursed for). They sent him a copy of the never to be released cover. Big thanks huh?

Casey Marks,
I looked through the 2002 MCR and can not find the two VERY distinctive differences. What are they?

Mark,
Here was my observation(s):
1. There was no subscription card. Probably not a surprise to those of us that knew the mag got the axe, but to the person not-in-the-know ....
2. I've been getting Car Review / MCR for 13+ years, and this issue, BY FAR, had more advertisements by NON-resto type companies than any that I can remember ...... PAW, Mopar Performance, etc.
3. The SAME article about the history of the Hemi was also in the latest issue of *Mopar Muscle*. And as I understand it, it was ALSO in a recent issue of Hot Rod ?? I don't get HR, so I'm not sure on that one. I do know that the giveaway crate Hemi is a Hot Rod sponsored deal though.
Just my observations ...... http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Casey,
You hit it right on the head! I noticed the same odd things. There were no subscription cars, and the stories that you mentioned were in other mags. I will have to write a note to Greg Rager and find out what the real deal was.
