I was digging through some newly acquired Dealer material, and came across this picture. It was taken in January 1970.Caption below it says:"Ready for the strip".Lustine Chevrolet,Hyattsville Md.sponsors it's own "Price fighter"in local Drag events, can do the 1/4 mile in 11.3 seconds, uses a modified 427 CID engine with 550 HP.Proud Lustine crew includes from left,Bill Breen,Vince Koehle,Archie Landen. The article goes on to say how they race this car as well as a Chevelle 1/2 miler.

Is this one of the Real 69 ZL-1's or a Dealership throw together? It does not give VIN# or any particular details.

I think the L72 427 Camaros ran SS/D. Is that a "D" on the roof?

Does it have SS emblems on the fender? If it is an SS then it was not a ZL1 or COPO. It is a cool picture and thanks for posting it.

Lustine Chevrolet is located just north of Washington D.C. in Hyattsville, MD and are presently still doing business under the same name. They were quite active in high performance car sales back in the 1960s-70s (my 1969 L-78 Nova was sold new at Lustine).

The records that Ed has posted on his website show that at least two ZL-1s went to Lustine - a Lemans Blue four speed car and a Fathom green four speed car. Tough to tell what the original color of the car in the photo was... It appears to have a two tone paint scheme and may have been completely repainted.

Keith,

When I spoke to Ed Hedrick several years ago, he told me that he ran his L-72 Camaro in "E" Stock as a four speed car and "D" Stock Automatic when they switched over to the THM 400. I couldn't tell you what class they ran in SS, but perhaps someone else here can.

Regards,

Stan Falenski

It says SS/E on the roof pilar.Car is white with a painted black roof.Has a Hood tach as well.

Good call JoeC.
It does say SS on the fender.I did not pick up on that. There is a nice plain Black one in the Background right???

Here is another picture from same collection. It is actor James Garner at Clippinger Chevrolet in Covina Calif.
On his left is Miss Corvette. On is right is Norman Clippinger, son of Harold Clippinger.Who died at age 92,and at the time was the oldest active Dealer in the state.

Lustine sponsored Malcom Durhams' Strip Blazer ZL-1, N615242. There is a small pic of it in an ancient Hot Rod feature on him.

Word is the car still exists somewhere on the east coast.
