COPO PETE

Just picked up the winter 2002 issue. Very cool looking L-78 car. You would swear it's a COPO car to see it. Suppose to have the COPO 9737 "sports car conversion" with 15" wheels with dog dish. I always thought that would make it have rally wheels?????? Did GM put out the 9737 with stamped steel 15" wheels? What would the code on the rim be?

9737 included rally wheels, code YH by the time COPO's were built.
I've wondered if you could get a SS or base car with 9737. Never seen one with any documentation......

Unless there was some type of freak car that slipped out of the factory, I would say only COPO 9560 and 9561 Camaros got the 9737. The Chevy documentation lists twelve ECL codes for Option 9737. Six of them are noted "Used as a Vehicle Combination with COPO option 9560" and eight of them are noted "Used as a Vehicle Combination with COPO option 9561"

Kind of what I thought! Never seen a COPO or any 69 SS Camaro with 15" stamped steel wheels. But of course I hate saying never in this hobby. In the mid 80's when trying to tell people about my 70 COPO LT-1, even with paper work, I had lots of "experts" tell me it was never built!

I don't think the 15x7 steel wheel with the Chevelle Camaro bolt circle diameter came out until used on the 1970 Monte Carlo but I'm not sure.

For the disc brake Chevies you got rally wheels in the 60s. Nothing else would clear the calipers until the '69 SS Chevelle wheels came along. Were some of the full sized Chevys equipped with 15" versions? I'm pretty sure some of these wheels were only 5" wide.
Like Peter, I too got snubbed by the "experts" in the '70s and 80s. After a while I was just looking for Chevelle parts and literature, nothing special. You just never know what curves Chevy will throw at you and you never say never.

Thanks for the info on 9737.
On Camaros, disc brakes in 67 came with rally wheels. In 68 and 69, the base wheels would clear.
