These ac were held in place by a U-shaped bracket that is positioned like an upside down U in the center of the ac. There is a hole in the center of the bracket that the carb stud went through. The bracket is positioned underneath the inner screen and straddles the inside of the ac holding it down tight against the carb. The nut and large washer holding everything onto the carb stud, goes on the top of the inner screen. Very easy piece to make. 99% of the used ac I have seen are missing this bracket.

If you mean the the round air filter with the screen on top. They have a strap type clamp that uses the center carb bolt. The ends of the strap run across the base and is about 5in long.
Dave, our replies were 1 min apart. By the way, you want to be careful using this air filter. They were known to ignite if there was a carb backfire.

Yes there was some type of air filter in it.
We called em Candle wicks.

The air filter is a black plastic affair that was about 1/2" thick. Looks like the stuffing froma furnance air filter. Most are destroyed or just fall apart from age/heat. My local furnace supply company has some stuff that is very close and may be fireproof.

thank all of you for all your help. My name is Trevor. i have a 1969 400 firebird with an L67 Ram Air IV. The motion style air cleaner i now have, spent its life on a 1969 Trans Am. Thank you for all your help folks, and i love the cars you all drive. Have a nice day, all, and keep tuning, cause i would hate to beat a yenko or motion in a street race. lol
