First thing, GREAT SITE!!!
My ques is, I bought a 68 nova, very nice car, it came with a build sheet, Stating that it was ordered with a 12 bolt rear posi, a 4 spd M-22, heavy duty clutch, and a powerful 230 hp 6 cyl, it has a 6 cyl vin, could this car be ordered for a special reason, or could anyone just order a car the way they want, mabey to put their own motor in it, or did any of the big guys, Nickey, harrell, gibbs, order these cars to build with 6 cyls?
I guess my ques is, does any of the supercars have 6 cyls vin nos?

Any chance of you posting or e-mailing a scan of this crazy combo build sheet? With all due respect, I'm a little skeptical....

I hope Im not comming across as someone giving crazy combos for kicks, I have nothing to gain by that. I have already been told by a known expert that you could order any car the way you want, but you could not order a car with out a motor, and this car was probally ordered to take the 6 out, and drop their own power plant in, I was comfortable with that explaination, But I was also told to search out the possibalities that mabey it was ordered for a dealer such as Gibbs, Harrell, or nickey, So I guess Im just trying to find out if I can say it is definatly not a supercar, Does the 6 cyl vin definatly count it out as a possiable? If I need to copy the build sheet to get an answer, then I will, but I was hoping to get a answer, and either go foward and search the possiablities, or just enjoy the car. ( Which I will probally do) But if there is a chance to get involved with the supercar shows, I will definatly be there with it.

Dave, I'm sure all Tom was getting at was a picture is worth a 1000 words. The likely hood of your car being as stated are not great. That doesn't mean it isn't and it's not a reflection on you.

Dave, I am wondering which code it is that you are talking about. The build sheets that I have seen do not mention if the rear axle is 10 or 12 bolts. If positraction was ordered the build sheet might mention that as G80, but that would be available on cars with 10 bolt rear end as well as the 12 bolt models. I think that Chevrolet selected the rear end type for you based on the engine and transmission combination ordered, and did not let you choose.

Hi Again, actualy, it does not say 12 bolt rear, but up in the left hand side near the top, in the axle box it says BU, and down at the bottom, it says (looks like ) 5G80Ml, but it is rusty colored, Again I was told that BU represents a 12 bolt rear, Either way, If it is in no way a possiable supercar, then my search ends here, but if it possiably could be, then the search might be worth it, and I will gladly show it along with the other supercars.

Oh one more thing, it does not say 230 hp, it says 230 CI. My mistake

I was wondering whar your build sheet looked like. Nova build sheets that I have seen, don't look like chevelle or camaro ones.I looked all over my car trying to find one that looked like a ss 396 chevelle I had u
ntil Marlin told me this was it.

Dave keep the info coming, these guys know their stuff and will help you learn all you need to know!!

Edit: I believe BU designates 3:73 posi and don't think it had to be 12bolt.

Thanks DJD for the reply, but what Im really interested in is weather any of the supercars had a 6 cyl vin, I know its not a yenko, they were not made for 68, but did any of the harrell, gibbs, or nickey cars have the 11327 vin no's. I have quite a collection of great chevys, ranging from 67 chevelle SS, 69 chevelle SS 69 Z-28, 69 Z-11, 78 Vette, 73 RS/Z, And this great looking chevy II, the chevy II is going to be my play toy, but as you can see, none of my other chevys will get me in to a supercar event, and I do travel quite a bit with my other cars, The chevy II is just a toy, but if it is something to show off at the supercar reunion, Then I will be there also. I did not buy it with any intentions of a supercar, it was after I bought it, that I found the build sheet, and thought it was odd, I do have to put a motor in it, and I have a very nice 68 427, not the orginal motor, but it will look great in the car. The car is already set up for a big block, springs, heatercore, and 4 core radiator, it came like that, so A big block would be the ticket for this car. But Im not trying to clone anything.

This is starting to sound like some kind of factory freak. According to the Chevrolet sales literature, the four speed transmission was not available with a six cylinder engine. But I guess that the parts would fit together, so it could have been built. I would love to see a copy of that build sheet. The only build sheets that I have ever found in Novas are the Fisher body sheets. The one that you have described is an assembly division build sheet.

It would be great if you could post a picture of the build sheet. Very interesting car you have.

The answer to your question about the gibb novas is all 50 cars were factory 396 cars 11427 #s I dont think Fred would have ordered a 6 cyl car for conversion. I have looked for a build sheet for a 68 car for 15 years. I have part of one. would love to a complete one . Kim Howie

Thank you for the answer, I know now that is it not a supercar, but Im sure it was ordered for someone who was draging it. This is probally the nicest nova body I have ever seen, It just turned 30,000 on the speedo and its true, I have the history of the car all the way back to 72, We have no idea where it was from 68 to 72, Now that I know, I will take a pic of the build sheet, and post it, I think I will have to come back with a link for it.
O-well, I would have loved to pull in to a supercar reunion, But I will keep searching.I have a line on a 68 camaro Yenko, which was wrecked, in the early 70's and has been sitting in a barn near by me,
