My question is what size are the steel wheels on some of the COPO and ZL1 Camaros? 15 X 7 or 14 X 7 or could it be both? Also does anyone know the back spacing for these wheels?

The only steel wheel offered on a COPO Camaro was the XT 14X7. I do not know the backspace offhand, but I think they are fairly neutral. The 15X7 wheels seen in a resent article of Camaro Performers are incorrect... BKH

bkhpah,

Thanks for the clarification or 14 inch vs 15 inch. What do you mean by neutral in the backspacing? I want to put a set of steel wheels on my 69. I bought a set of the dog dish caps that came on the COPO and ZL1 cars a few months ago. I like the plain jane look.

Neutral, meaning that the 7inch rim has approx. 3.5 inches of backspacing.

15x7 steel rally wheels could be gotten on a COPO by also ordering COPO 9737.
Most cars didn't get the second COPO on them and came with the 14x7 XT dog dishes.

COPOs could also use optional 14 x 7 wheels, either the SS style or the rally wheel.

If optional wheels or COPO 9737 were not specified the car was built with the 14 x 7 standard wheel, coded XT, as used on Camaro SS.

The standard 14 x 7 wheel used on many GM cars from '78-'87 is a nearly a dead ringer for the real XT. Some have been re-stamped so be careful.

Pontiac also used the XT wheel.

William, I had heard that Pontiacs used an "IF" rim that appear to me to be identical to the "XT" rim. Any thoughts?

Don't know about the IF.

Thought the XT was used on Grand Prix 69-72. I've seen them with a "KH 2" stamp, the 2 indicating Pontiac.
