Body Paint question for the Pro's

This concerns Painting a car by panels and then bolting it together .
How can i be sure my panels match in color if done seperate.

I do my own painting and if this was a solid color i wouldnt be concerned but it's CODE 71 Lemans Blue .

If i did the jams and then bolted it together i could use the apeture tape( the round foam with a tape edge ) but i want to avoid any overspray.

I am using Diamont (PPG) and have the Body and all panels stripped and DP50 (GREY) epoxy coated and i have all panels test fitted and am ready to start finish work then paint.

I am also using a SADA gun for spraying

Any " PRO" help would be greatly apriciated.

Lemans blue is very hard to match when painting panels separete.Try painting with doors on the car and the fenders suported in front of the car so you can get a more consistant coverage.You will be able to cover all the door jams without the fenders on the car and wont have to worry about overspray or worse chipping thet fresh paint installing those bulky doors.I usualy just move the fenders forward about 1 foot and support them and paint as if they were on the car. hope this helps.

Were you going to use any K36 or uro fill over the DP50? I suggest you use a primer surfacer like these, guide coat, and block before you paint. Be sure you have enough paint, as no two mixes are exactly the same.Try to keep your air pressure consistant as possible, and your distance from the surface. You may want to check on the mixing formula they use for Lemans blue. Sometimes when paint jobbers run an old color like this the computer crossreferences the closest newer color, which is on a mid 80's cavilier. It's very close, unless you park next to an orginal.Double check with you jobber, and shoot some sprayout cards, tinting the color until your happy with it.

I have been painting for a number of years and i go through all the basics,,..
I will DEFINATLY be using a top coat 2K primer and will probably spend a week or more blocking this car .
I was just worried about color matching with the Lemans Blue if i painted panels....
I had the Paint supplier call and get the actuall 69 Code formula ao i should be ok there .
I also will reduce all the Base at one time so everything is the same from cup to cup .

I guess time will tell....

just painted a 70 judge conv granada gold heavy metallic supported the fenders in front of the car so as to get the consistant coverage also supported the hood between the fenders You can not tell the difference in tones metallic lay down etc.
