I've seen several nicely restored B/B with the neg cable attached to the alternator bracket. The assembly manual shows it being attached to the block. Which is correct?

I think the block is more correct. I have seen this (alt bracket mounting) also on some pretty nice cars so there must be some form of documentation for it. Cosmeticely the block mounting looks a lot nicer.

69 and 70 L78 Novas and the L78 Camaro had the negative cable bolted to the alternator bracket, with a 5/16 flangehead bolt and a full face starlock washer. The bracket is tapped.
Among the Chevelle Clubs and restorers,it has been documented as being done both ways.Plant and time period did not seem to be a factor,so it is considered correct either way,on 1970 Chevelles anyway.
I have pictures of engine compartments from 1970 showing two Kansas built Chevelles with ground in both locations.
I have seen cars grounded at the Head, but carrying Alt.bracket with a threaded hole unused.
This will always been argued between Owner & Judges.

The last two 69's I restored the negative cable was bolted to the head, 02B & 06A build dates. The assembly manual shows them to be bolted there also and the last update of the drawing for that was 05-26-69 when the cables went to side terminals............RatPack..................
