OK, this started in the parts wanted section but I think it is time to find the truth!
We need an expert to tell if sparkplug shields came on muscle cars. I know the Corvettes had them but what about the Camaro and Chevelle? Anyone know?

I am not an expert, but they are installed
on our 69 SS L-78. This can be a question I will submit to the dealer who sold our car new, as he is still around........Joel

Our COPO Chevelle had no shields when new. I don't ever remember seeing them on Chevelles nor Camaros back when they were new.

Just got back from a road trip that included checking out a 32,OOO original mile and owner, valve covers never off ,1969 Chevelle L78 4 speed bench seat 4.10 posi.
It is a true Survivor quality Chevelle built at the Baltimore Plant and no heat shields installed. The car was buit O6C.
I found it interesting that the engine lift hooks were originally painted Silver on this car, not orange or natural.

I think Heat shields came on the 1965 and 1966 Impalas with the 396 and 427 and also the 1965 Z-16.

I just got thru looking at Mr. MacNiesh's definitive book on 69 SS and Z's, and in the pictures I didn't see any shields on any of the big block cars pictured. Anyone check with Ed Cunneen and see if those are installed on any of his cars?

Heat shields were not used on Camaros or Chevelles except the Z-16s.

I have been told but not sure it is 100% true that the heat sheilds only came on corvettes with big blocks

Maybe this has something to do when or where the car was built.

In the 67-68 Definitive Fact Book by MacNeish, third edition, page 10 shows a picture of heat shields on a 68 Z28.They are original. Tony

A Z-16 is a 1965 Chevelle with the 396 engine. I thought you were refering to "big blocks" many small blocks did have the heat shields, most were two piece items not the individual shields like on the big block.

We are talking about big blocks here.
Who all here has orginal Camaros or Chevelles that can confirm this one way or the other.

Most of the Camaros I have seen did not have them.

My .02
I have never seen a survivor 1969-70 Chevelle SS B/B Car with heat shields.
People who restore them that way, always regret that bad info they gt before hand.

I think I owe Charley an apology because back in the parts wanted section, you asked what these were for and I thought you were joking. Looking back now, is this subject what you were saying? If so, I apologize.

This is by far the greatest Camaro site with the best support group. Seems we (or some of us) learn something every week.

Oh by the way, cancel the looking for heat shields thing in the parts wanted! HAHA

I got this Email from Jerry MacNeish yesterday on this subject:

I know for sure that '68-69 big blocks did not have them. And I'm fairly certain that '67's didn't either. I bought a brand new '69 Chevelle so I was there in the beginning. I'll check with others that I judge with for the '67's.
