View Full Version : Yenko Question.. Are they all Aluminum?

Please settle this argument. I need to know if all Yenko's where aluminum blocks or engines. Also if all where 427's or other sizes. Please some information! Thank you.

What did you bet on? If you said no aluminium motors you win! At least in 1967/69.

Brian is right...no aluminum engines 67-69. Yenko DID start producing an aluminum engine in the '70s, though, which had the Yenko crest cast into the block. However, I'm not sure if any of these any engines ever made it into an actual Yenko car...anyone know?

Not all Yenkos were 427's. There were Stinger Corvairs and Vegas with 4 cylinder engines, Stormer Camaros based on '67-'69 Z28's, '70 Novas with LT1 - Z28 engines, and '81 Camaro Z28's with turbo-charged 350 engines.

There were 454 engined cars advertised in 1970, and 1973 Camaros advertised with two versions of the 427 engine. It is unknown if any of these were actually produced, but anything is possible.

Hope this settles the argument!

I Dont Think ANY Yenko AL Blocks Were put in cars they were put in boats .correct me if Iam wrong.

There were many versions of the Yenko block. Some were for boat racing, but others were used in the unlimited sprint cars of that era. So it is possible that you could have had one installed in a street application. Also Yenko did a 6 cylinder version of the ZL/1 motor

There were at least 3 1967 Yenko Camaro protoypes built, with at least one, possibly two that contained aluminum ZL-1 engines. The documentation is in the paperwork that remains with the Yenko estate. I have seen the hand written notes. They contain the VINs written in pink (Donna Mae). I am assuming that they were Chevy ZL-1 engines, not Yenkos. Tom

I had seen the papers with a 1968 Yenko Camaro with a ZL/1 motor that Donna Mae had shown me. I had never heard of a 67. Yenko was driving the car to see how it ran according to Donna Mae. This has to be one of the earliest released prototypes. What has become of the car and motor is unknown.

I know of a sprint car owner who had Yenko install the aluminum big blocks in his cars, they also installed one in his Shelby Cobra!

According to one magazine, Motion was also testing a ZL1 427 in a 1968 Camaro. The article is dated Dec. 1968 and states that the engine was on loan from Chevy for drag strip testing. I believe Bill Jenkins also recieved some early ZL1's from Chevy in 1968.
