View Full Version : Hechler ZL-1 info needed

06-13-2002, 04:37 PM
I am in need of some help concerning the 2 ZL-1's that were ordered by Hechler Chevrolet (Richmond,VA) and then DX's to Courtesy Chevrolet. I am really interested in determing what VIN's the cars were and where the cars are now (if known). If the cars are known I might be able to assist the owners, as I am good friends with the then owner/current owner of the dealership. For those not familiar with Hechler, they were the main Corvette dealer/supercar dealer here in Richmond. The yellow ZL-1 'vette and a couple of COPO's were sold there. Any help appreciated.

Do you know the color of the ZL1s and date sold? This will help with process of elimination using the ZL1 production data.

I was told one of the cars was blue, not sure of the other color, or even if it is right. I spoke to a good friend, who incidentily sold the ZL-1 'vette new, and he thought one was blue. Like he said though, that was a long time ago.. I didn't know if anyone might know.

I am assuming that the 'blue' you are referring to is Dusk Blue, and not Lemans Blue since I don't see any of them going to VA or to Courtesy. There was one Dusk Blue ZL1 that was sold out of Tamson Chev in Danville, VA and it is alive and well. In fact, it was the USCC giveaway car back in the early '90's. There is a website somewhere with the car on it, with soundbites of the engine running. The car came has it's original B.O.S. from Tamson, but maybe it was dx'd from Hechler.

124379N642876 Hugger orange 4-speed was in England
124379N642934 Garnet red 4-speed last owned by Gary Holub

William are these the two VIN's I'm looking for? Is the garnet red car the car with red interior? Is that the car that was once owned by Floyd Garrett? I know he owned a L71 '67 'vette that was red on red, that was sold at Hechler.

Both VINs shown were Hechler cars. The red car had a red interior, spent much of its life in MD. Ed Cunneen restored it and sold to Holub.

I have a window sticker copy for the orange car.

Garretts' ZL1 was 124379N642835 and had a black interior.

I believe the Red Red one is now in Canada and the Orange one is in Az.

Does anyone know the owners? If so, I'd love to be put in touch with them through private email or phone numbers. TIA

I also heard from someone at one of our local cruises that the Red on Red ZL1 is now owned by someone in Toronto. This discussion came up because Legendary was doing some work on a Silver ZL1 which now belongs to someone up here.

The orange car from England made it back to this side of the pond and was owned by Barry Coughlin in MD. The car has now been sold again, but I'm not sure who bought it.

i sold the silver zl1 to bill ockerlund of michigan. it is probably at legendary getting a couple of small nicks fixed that were done in transit. unfortunate that this happened but bill is going to have it done right.

Kevin, I would love to get his number...Just curious are you replacing the ZL-1 with something else????

If Bill is having Legendary work on it,then it is probably for sale also. They like to Test the Market Value of the cars while working on them.
Sometimes the car owner doesn't know this, and is surprised by the offer Legendary gives them....

it always seems like i say i am not ,but am getting a 2002 zl1 427 stage III, also looking for a hemi car.

Hemi's are really cool....especially in a 'cuda body (E body..). I saw a couple of nice ones locally at a cruise...not for sale though...All I can say is must have been a hard decision to part with the '69...especially with it being that nice a car, and a proven appreciation rate....

How about a Mopar B-body, 1969 Super Bee, Silver with black top and black bench, column shift auto.

The second owner purchased it used in 1971. It is a survivor quality car with under 10,000 miles. All original paint, top & interior.

The car needs to be cleaned up as it has a few bumps and scrapes and the original paint on Mopars left alot to be desired even when new.

It never saw the drag strip, but did see quite a few steet races in its day.

All dealer paper work on the second transaction, build sheet and a Survivor.

The motor was pulled and blueprinted by Mr. Norms in 1972.
