OK guys - don't know if you remember me asking about that L-89 car a couple of months back. But again, I'm a bit confused ...... could you only get the 427/385 in a Biscayne ? Were the higher HP 427's available in the Caprice / SS / Imp's ??

I'm hung up on '68 Biscaynes, and am toying with either cloning a 427 car, or looking for a legit unit.

The 427 425hp L72 engine was available in 66 to 69 full size Passenger cars. Except 1967. Not sure if it came in Impala and Biscayne every year but some years was both. Some say a few 425hp Passenger cars were built in 1967 but it is listed as not available. The COPO Camaro and Chevelle used this engine not the 69 Corvette engine which was the L71. L72 was not avaiable in Corvette in 1969. Motion sold the 425 hp Passenger cars as his economy hot rod. They were a little fat but still ran in the 12's.

If I jump in here, do you PROMISE you won't prank call me again about an L-72 Biscayne/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif?! That was straight out of "Jerky Boys"! What's bad is that it worked!

Anyway, back on topic: you looking to get something to match Brian's Marauder? (I can't wait to see that car in Stanton!) Here is a former feature car, a '69 Baldwin-Motion Biscayne (http://www.yenko.net/features/2000/June2000.htm), which rolled off the assembly line originally as an L-72/M-22 car. I think a big car like that could run right with Brian's car, and I would LOVE to be there to see it!

Thanks Joe and Rob .....

Yes - I'd like to do a '68 L-72 Biscayne. Anyone have any leads on a super clean car ? Preferably a V8, manual trans. I'm assuming that I wouldn't be able to afford a *real* car, so I'd have to clone one. It's either that or a 70 AMC Rebel Machine ......... I'm sure you guys would much rather see me in a Chev ... right ??

How about a 1969 L89 ElCamino TH400. They have a lot of rear over hang especially with the tail gate down. I think they would get a good 60ft time and you can carry your tools in the back.

Casey, sorry I didn't read the part where you probably couldn't afford a real 427 biscayne.I looked on quite a few sites trying to fid one but no luck, where are you located so I can look in that areas close to you.I am retired and play on the computer a lot and would be glad to look around for you to see what I can find.I found some Impalas but only the one Biscayne! these things must be pretty hard to come by.Do you have to have only a 68 model or will 69 work also.Let me know and I will be looking

Thanks Bobby !

Yep - kinda stuck on the looks of the '68 Biscayne. I had run across that L89 car before, but there is some speculation whether or not it is real or not. I wouldn't mind a legit L72 car, but don't know what kinda of $$$ they command ?? Haven't seen a real one for sale ........

Like JoeC said, http://impalass427.com/ is where I would start. Contact the gentleman (Mark?) that runs the site, and tell him you are needing one, as a certain "full size FoMoCo" needs to be put in it's place! (Brian will get a kick out of that!)

The L72 was available in 67 Biscaynes. I remember seeing several run at Sioux City, Ia at the NHRA points meet in '68. One was called Ennis' Menace and another was called the Union Jack. I remember they ran in D stock and on 7" tires they ran in the low 12's. This engine car combination also appears in the current NHRA stock and super stock classification guide. Frank Payne

I have had several 67 Impalas and have never seen a legitimate L-72 built in 1967. Supposedly they built five or six but have never seen a real one. I have had this discussion with Jon Krogh and Ron Mroz about this very subject, these guys are the experts on 67s and they have never seen a real L-72 in a 1967 impala. It is possible they were legal for NHRA drag racing with this engine?

I agree, as long as I have been into the big cars, never seen a legit 67 L-72 car. Not saying there are not any ever made, but by now I figured I would have seen at least one

There is a 68 Biscayne for sale outside Chicago. I saw it at the Lombard cruise last weekend. I believe it is a 427 clone with a auto trans on the column. You should talk to Stefano. I believe he knows the guy. I will try to post a photo, but if it doesn't work I will need some directions on how to post.

The 'Chicago' 68 Biscayne, is a high quality and very original car. It started off as a low milage survivor quailty car driven by a little old lady from Green Bay. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I consider it as a full on B/M clone every time I see it, but garage space is at a premium.

The picture is of my car, taken at Thompson Drag Raceway 1970. The car was raced from 68-71 was a AHRA record holder in D/S. We have had the car since 1973.

Was this your car shown at Norwalk "Super Chevy" in the late 80s or early 90s, I can't remember what year for sure, but if it was, it sure was a beautiful resto! Very nice!!!
