If you're not getting the stock, stage II or whatever, who is going to build your engine? How wild are going to go with it? C5R? Are you making any other significant changes to the car such as heavier clutch and rear end?

Wow. This has turned out to be one hot topic!
The reason I'm bringing this up is that I plan to use a C5R block with Stage III LS6 heads. But now I'm hearing that the C5R heads are worth 50 or MORE horse power. Anybody else done any research on this or know first hand if the C5R heads are worth the extra hassle (custom intake) and cost?

Well, I'm not a 2002 ZL-1 purchaser, but I am watching this topic! I just recently bought a '98 SS, and if the LS-1 in it ever craps out, then I would like to put some muscle in it. Your post is NOT in vain...

Why would anyone modify one of these cars? There are enough modification choices to satisfy anyone.

To be a real ZL-1 it needs to be an aluminum 427. The 427 ZL-1 engine was state of the art for it's period. This one should be no less! Seems to me a 427 C5R engine is perfectly appropriate.

Update - looks like we are going with the C5R block, heads and custom intake.
