The January 1974 issue of Popular Hot Rodding has an article on Motion's conversion of a Firebird to a 427 Phase III ZL/X powered Bird. The article mentions another conversion that used the high compression 454 crate motor. Lots of pictures including one of the transmission along with the shift linkage for the Hone overdrive unit. The hood and paint treatment was the same as that of the Motion Camaros.

Hey Keith. This car is great! In another article I have (HP CARS?) this car was shown as an employee of Motion's car who did the conversion. I wish I could have seen this car in color to get a better 'feel' for it. The combo looks great though...the motion stripes...the short '70 Camaro spoiler, the rim/tire combo..nuff said. That was the car I wanted to build a 1/25 model of but need an MPC hood to butcher ($$). Anyone else know what the other issue/mag is that this car is written up in? I seem to recall the owner peering over the engine in an 'open hood' shot w/ a caption reading that he worked at Motion and did the conversion. See attatched pic.

I appreciate your reply 55chevy. Do you happen to have anything that has to do with a 74 firebird? if you do can you fax or mail it to me. I am willing to pay for any cost associated with this.

Much appreciated

Alex

Belair: Am I mistaken, or is the current owner of that car a member here? Maybe we can get him to chime in...

Not sure who owns it now...

The current owner showed/ran the car at SR7. With A/C and power steering hooked up, non Motion speck 3:55 gears, tall slicks, and a full restrictive 2 1/4 exhaust. It was easily running in the twelves.

He did register, it was a major event. He is very new to navigating the net on his own. Maybe we'll see him on later this afternoon.

Thanks folks and 55 Chevy for posting the pictures. Any articles on these. The reason I ask is because I was the second owner of a 74 Motion modified firebird and sold it to someone in NY in late 70's. I am trying to find him and see if I can buy it back. I remember giving him an article about the car and a bill of sale from Motion. I am looking for the article. The car was very unusual. It was ordered by someone who was going to "race the car".

This is what I recall. 74 Firebird, Pontiac red (more orangish) color, glass nose ( thick not flimsy) and L88 style hood colored white in the middle. No motion stripes. Car was gutted, had back seat, no headliner, doors werr gutted but windows worked. Dash had 3 or 4 sun guages and a big Moroso mechanical tach on the dash ( noisy I remember). 4 point bolt on roll bar. Engine" 454 LS7, 12.5 comp, not sure of cam ( was told by the original owner that it was a ZL1 cam), square port heads, Tarantula manifild, 850 Holley DP, headers with really loud mufflers (I think they called them Cherry something or another). Turbo 400, 12 bolt with 488 gears, and lakewood slapper bars.

Car was a beast, I took it to the track once with a few friends ( it had the tow tabs in the front) with 10 or 11 inch slicks tested it. Being novices we did not really set up anything, just did a burnout and staged, floored it, spun the tires out a good 15-20 feet and ran 11;27 (that I remember). I am trying to locate the car. i thought it was in the neighborhood but it is not.

Question from you experts. How rare is this car and what would it sell for in #1, #2, #3 condition.

Thanks

Alex

55 Chevy

Sorry, I do not have pictures now. But it did look like the one on the far right side of the 4 firebirds that you posted.

Can you tell me the price range for this car in poor to good condition? I do know that the price depends on the individuals making the transaction and that it is a small world.

Thanks

Alex

Sorry Alex, I'm not an authority on pricing these cars. So I won't even speculate. Not my place. I'm just a poor enthusiast like the many out there. I think it's safe to say that a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
