Congratulations on your 3 page color spread of the Dan Young Camaro in the October issue of Chevy High Performance. Theres another picture that will look good on my shop wall. Where can we get it autographed? /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

I'm sure if you pay for his travel, feed him and put him up for the evening he will personally come out and autograph it for you.He may even throw in a color photo of his water truck. One word of caution: He eats like he is going to be executed in the morning!

I haven't even seen it yet. It's nice to see Belair woke up though.

Just got mine in the mail. Nice spread. That old Camaro sure carried quite a few historically significant dignitaries around the track.

Charley, the old DAN YOUNG block letters that he addded to the rear quarters (along with the big bowtie) actually got me connected to Dan Young's dealership to purchase my Brickyard 400 courtesy car. Were those applied decals or painted, and if they were paint, do you know how they were removed?
just curious,

Just read the CHP issue.
Nice Car Charley!
I wish they took more detailed pictures in the Magazine.I can't get enough of that Camaro.
And that is saying alot seeing as I swing with Chevelles more.

Sam... The Dan Young Lettering was removed by repainting the area of the quarter panels. Kevin Lee is the Editor of Camaro Performers and there is supposed to be a 5 page article coming out that Kevin says his pics are better. Factually they are wrong about 3 being built. The GM work order calls for three cars but Vince Piggins said that only two were built.

I was also surprised to read that the cars were originally 4 speed cars. I had previously read that they were ordered with solid lifter motors and TH400 trans, then the motors were swapped for blueprinted 325 horse motors. Does your car show evidence of a clutch pedal?
Thanks again,
-Sam

Thw GM work order calls for 375 4 speed cars and the Protecto plate shows it had a 375 4 speed. You can barely see the outline of the plate that bolted onto the subframe that holds the Zbar for the clutch linkage. The trim tag shows it as a 4 speed.

Charley,
I picked up a magazine called Camaro Performers (Fall 2002, from the editors of Super Chevy and Popular Hot Rodding). On Page 50, there is a two page beauty shot of your Indy track car, followed by three pages of Kevin Lee's pictures and a nice article - much better coverage than the CHP piece (plus no green interior).
Oh, by the way, it's also featured on the cover..

It sure is a beautiful car!

Congrats from me too, Charley. Like Mr70, I'm a Chevelle freak but when I saw the cover and the article, I had to have the magazine. ('Course, /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif the fact we had a chance to meet at VF had a little to do with the decision.) Beautiful car with a great history. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
