OK, I thought I knew this one. While enjoying the hospitality of Jim/NWYENKO yesterday, I took the opportunity to snoop into his yard-tool room where he keeps the original wheels and tires for the 25K original mile Camaro. I verified two of the wheels as YH's but was stumped by the size of the seemingly original Wide Tread GT's. They were F70-15's. I thought these cars were equipped with E70-15's ala' the Z28's. Any theories or explanations here? /ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif

All of the 1969 COPO Camaros that came with the COPO 9737 "Sportscar Conversion" package were equipped with E70x15 Goodyears. No exceptions!

However, the COPO 9737 "Sportscar Conversion" package was also available on the Chevelle with the COPO 427 engine. These cars would have gotten the same 15" rally wheels as the Camaro, but would have come with F70x15 Goodyear tires.

More realistically, I'd guess that at least the rear tires were replaced, after the original tires were trashed, with the F70x15 Goodyear tires as replacemnts. Back then, very few performance would have the original tires last for 28k.

I would tend to agree with Jim. These are probably replacement tires that appear to be 40% tread life. I would guess the originals would last 15-20k miles dependent on how hard they were abused. I know that I always went up 1 size when replacing original tires on stock wheels. Jim /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

Do they say "WIDE TREAD GT"? I have seen some without the "GT" and some with "F70x15" in white letters. I am looking for a set of F70x15 WIDE TREAD GT for my Yenko Chevelle if they are for sale please let me know. They should have a date code on them also.
