View Full Version : Fuel line

Mr. Nicky Nova has pulled what he believes to be his original pump to carb, fuel line off of his 69 Z28. The line he pulled off of the car was routed under the water pump. He just purchased a new line from RICKS and this line is routed along the side of the water pump. My question is, does any one have an original pump to carb fuel line and does it route under the water pump or is it along the side like the reproduction line?
Thanks,
Billy

The factory assembly manual should show the correct one.
I would look it up but a friend borrowed mine. Does anyone else here have one handy?

L78Impala;
I just happen to have the AM in my hand and it does not really show. Every other drawing shows the fuel line going behind the water pump. This differences are:
Base - Behind water pump between pass side water pump inlet and timing chain cover near valve cover.
L35 - Directly behind water pump in front of timing chain cover (two lines to the fuel filter, one to carb).
L48 - Not really clear but looks the same as L35 since the water pump is not shown.
L65 - Again not really clear (water pump not shown) center of the block crossing over thermostat.
L78 - No water pump shown, line in center of block on drivers side of water pump bypass
Z28 - No water pump shown, line looks like Base and goes over the side of the block except it is tight to intake and bends around bumps on intake to the tee unlike base. After a second and closer look, it MIGHT be on the outside of the water pump. The part number changed 7-26-68. What is the build month?
Did this make sense?

Thanks for the help guys.
So Chevy are you saying that the Z28 is the same as the base model, that is the fuel line is routed under the water pump? /ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif
any kind of feed back is appreciated.

I don't know the build month, but I will find out.
Thanks

L78Impala;
The picture is not clear since it does not show the waterpump. It may have gone behind on the cars built before July and on the outside on cars built later. I will attach a pic. Greg

This is the base line. (This probably voilates copyright or can this be considered research.....) /ubbthreads/images/icons/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/icons/blush.gif

Thanks for the info Greg.
This is definitely research. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif The drawings still leave it unclear as to the route the line runs.

L78Impala;
The 67 and 68 AM L78 lines are both distinctly outside the water pump. The 68 AM refers to the carb installation as like the L78, yet the 69 L78 is distinctly behind the water pump with two part number changes. I am a Nova guy and will shut up now. My bet is that the part number changed mid year so it could be either. Good Luck!

Thanks Greg,
I don't know if we have killed this thing yet, but we have come pretty close. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif I will let Nicky Nova know that the line can run either way. With a best guess that the cars built before July run under the water pump and the cars built after july have the fuel line run along side the water pump.
Thanks again,
Billy
