All of my leads on getting an NICB report have gone dry. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I would gladly pay for the service. Please e-mail me if you can help.

Thanks,

Jason

An NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) report will show the original selling dealer and the day the car was shipped to the dealer from the factory.

There are many difficulties in getting the NICB info. One is the fact that it is a non profit group therefore they cannot legally sell the info no matter how much you would pay for it. There are a bunch of other reasons that prevents them from providing the info.

The only source I had is not providing this service any longer. A private detective can do this search as can a law officer.

is this something an officer can get trouble for doing, out side his/her job??

Since it may not be for official use they could posibly get in trouble. I don't think that the delivering dealer, shipping date, zone and dealer number are very confidential.

I have never seen anything about original equipment on the report. Could you provide additional information? I have seen the vehicle weight on some reports.

The only information available is the shipping date, dealer name and address and zone and dealer number. Unless you are in law enforcement or insurance, you can not get the information. Also, the information is not always available on every car as the records are not 100% complete.

If the car was built or sold new in Canada then you can get info as to how it was equipped when new, although that would be through GM Canada not NICB.

The amount of info depends on the year. There was a system upgrade which was around 1981 when they began using 17 digit character vin numbers. There is more info on the later cars.

I know that they have told people in the past that they have some equipment/option information but it would take a court order or proper police authority to get it released and in print.

I have also been told that they kept some info. on Subsequent selling dealers, but I have yet to see any of this info either.

I have two friends who are cops and have asked both as well as describe in detail what NICB is, I even went so far as to print the thread from a few months ago and give it to them to pass around the station..No luck! Does anyone have an NICB report that they could post so I could print it out to show these guys that this entity is real..?
They would surely help if they could..One is even a detective!!! What gives? T

Unless the police officer or detective directly investigates auto theft or insurance fraud, they usually will have never heard of NICB. The average patrol officer really has no need for their services.

That's right I forgot they had a web site..I'll give it to my buds and see if they can do anything with it. I think to get anything out of them they maybe would have to get permission from a superior or something? Worth another shot though.

I have the same trouble, no one knows anything about it or has heard of the NICB. Even my uncle ,who is A PI didn't know of them. I would really like that information too. Every other lead I've followed on my car has lead to nothing. If I never find anything, I'll still have the car, That's the fun part. Tommy
