Grew up in Langhorne, PA - Reedman's is one huuuge place. They have their own private test track! They sold a large number of performance cars, no COPO cars to my knowledge.

I knew of one ZL1 car to be sold at Reedmen in Langhorn. It sat on the lot until 1971 due to the high cost. A friend of my wife's uncle puchased the car new (2 years old).

Reedman has been around for a long time. They do some serious volume. I don't recall seeing any ZL1's listed as being sold by Reedman so please give us more information on the car like color, transmission, options... Does this person remember more details about this ZL1?

There is a possibility that a Huggar Orange ZL1 was sitting at Reedman's, but I believe it was there on consignment. That car was actually owned by Penske Chev. in Phila. Was the car orange (possibly an a/t?)

24/7 they leave the keys in the cars there are so many cars that they whould end up losing keys so they just leave them in the cars /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif Norm

My LS6 was originally sold at Reedman. They moved a lot of hipo cars, and are still rated the largest auto dealer in the US. Quite a place. I have a postcard from 1970 showing an aerial view of the facility. Pretty amazing.

I just picked up a pair of the metal Reedman dealer emblems. Growing up, I remembered seeing those emblems on many cars in the area.

I've been told that they actually buy their inventory, unlike most dealers so they are able to maximize their profit on each sale. Are any of the salesmen here able to explain this better?

------Most dealerships floorplan thier cars with a lending entity. Most GM dealerships use GMAC,but they dont have to.A different division than the one you and I might use.If Reedman has deep enough pockets to finance themselves they will eke out a little bit more profit. This is generally the sign of a very financially solid dealer.
------Conversely(at least in my day)a dealer owned his used inventory outright. If a dealership had to floorplan the used and new inventory it was considered to be on shaky ground!Dont know that has changed over the years.Dont think so.............Bill S

Bill you are right on. The extra "profit maximizing" comes from the interest savings that the dealers get by not having to floor plan their inventory. You don't have to use GMAC if the dealer is in with a local bank. They might floor the cars with them if they get a better deal but flooring your car with your captive lender has other benefits.

BTW most soures have a period of 90 days before they charge juice on a car. That's why most of you have heard some dealers say that you might get a better deal if you order a car. In and out.

Paul, where did you get the emblems? I would love to get one to set my car back to original. It was sold at Reedman in 1970.

Bill,
Just one minor point. I don't believe Reedman's took title to their used cars. When I bought my used '62 Impala from them in July '68 they just flipped the title. It was still in the previous owner's name, and he had signed it.
By the way, the car still has the metal emblem on the trunk lid.

My 70 Camaro L78 was originally purchased from Reedmanís.
Still has the emblem screwed to the trunk lid.
When I was younger we used to test drive BB Mopars and Chevys on the test track they have.

I just saw a 69 Reedman camaro today at stafford springs conn, during the swapmeet it was on a trailer for sale my oldest son had poined it out to me we kinda goofed on it it had the Reedman metal emblem on the back just to the left lower corner of the bowtie it was just a 6 bang auto mono springs and drum brakes most of the battered car had the factory paint, the odd thing that drew me to it was the partial factory SS? decal stripe on the doors, must have been a add on.we tried to buy the emblem but noboby was around to talk to.

Unfortunately Reedman’s was recently sold to a local developer Bruce Toll. The Reedman’s moved to
U.S. Route 1 in the late 1940s, putting a used-car dealership in front of the Langhorne Speedway and
then later relocated across the street. They landed a Chevy franchise in 1953. The place has not been
the same since Ralph died about 10 years ago. I have a friend that works in the body shop. He hooked
me up with some of the Old Reedman emblems along with some Paperwork for one of my 70 SS/L78’s
that was purchased new from them. Reedman’s sold a whole lot of LS6, L78 and Z/28’s through the years
on top of all of the Hemi and other Mopar muscle cars. They sold over15,000 cars last year.
That’s a lot of Freaking cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

One of my 70 L78 Novas is a Reedman car. Gold with bench seat interior, column TH400. Lots of cool options:P/S, F-41, Remote drivers side mirror, vanity mirror, aux. lighting with low washer fluid indicator. this guy had the dealership install a 4.10 posi since he tried to order one but car came in with 3.55, also rallye wheels, rear window defroster, floor mats, HD battery, front & rear bumper guards, tinted glass, elec clock, am radio, door edge guards, custom gold cloth interior. This car even has a trailer hitch! He towed a snowmobile with it....Thanks Donny.
