View Full Version : T-3 Headlights - Whats correct ???
68 COPO II
10-08-2002, 02:30 PM
I am looking for a correct set of T-3's for a 1968 COPO nova which I have entered for a Gold Spinner at the upcoming Chevy VetteFest. Last weekend, I hit the Long Beach High Performance swap meet and found 1 headlight with no lines inside the T-3 triangle. I have two already which have vertical lines in the triangle and the dates of H 3 7. I plan to hit the Pomona Swap meet this weekend and continue my search.
Can anyone tell me which is correct? Vertical Lines or No lines? Also, are the dates codes diiferent for 1968? I found a B 8 date also?
Or Will the judges even look at the headlight details?
Thanks for your help !!!!

They probably won't even look, once they find enough little things, they will move on.
If you really want to get it judged by Nova guys, you need to take it to the Nova Nationals. For a car like yours, they will make extra time for the judges to go over it. At this years Nationals, they made extra time for Yenko cars and L79 cars. The vette-fest guys are ok, but they won't dig real hard. You will need to be on your toes though, they have deducted points from a car without cause. The owner had to formally protest the deduction, he got the point back (regarding a date coded battery I believe).

68 copo, I pulled A T-3 off an unmolested 68 chevy II this year and it has the vertical lines inside the T-3. I am not sure where the dates are on these but if you can tell me i'll let you know what they are if that will help you. The car I pulled it from still had the original dated plug wires and A coil I had never seen before, the coil wire slipped in and screwed down ? The car was complete and looked like it was parked 25 or 30 years ago. Original belt, alternator and even the complete original exhaust system. I think the light may be the original too. Tommy

DH,
I have an early (Jan 4)'69 Nova with an original T-3 still in it. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and let you know what I find.

Does anybody make a correct reproduction T-3 for a 69 Camaro? All the ones I've seen so far are apparently close but the markings inside the triangle are incorrect. I don't have access to swap meets or wrecker yards over here and I want something close as a backup in case I lose a light.

All,
Here's what I found on the T-3 in my '69 Nova. Inside the triangle, the vertical lines. A pebble grain inside the letters T-3 and the Large T. At the top, embossed to the outside, J75. Top left, below the aiming tab, stacked vertically, 8205. Top right, same location, just the number 2. Both those locations are embossed on the inside of the glass. On the back of the light is a stamping in red-orange. The top line reads CO2. The middle line is a little smeared but appears to be D 8 26. And the bottom line is simply 12V. I'm almost certain this light is OE to this Jan 4, Ypsilanti car. For what it's worth!

Tommy, I have not seen it in print, but I was told the date codes are on the front/top of the headlight. Can anyone verify?
It appears to remain consistant with the headlight usage data posted by RatPack.
Thanks to all for your help.

Can anyone provide direction to determine the date code and what is correct for a 69 camaro. I have dates on the front of my T-3's that are supposively original. They are J117 and J62. Thanks for the advise..........

Dennis, according to the chart posted by Rat Pack, my T-3's are 68-71 model. I don't know how to decipher the dates but if it is the letter/number on top, mine are K 10 5. I see these from time to time in my area in salvage yards, let me know if you can't find any and I'll see if I can locate some. Tommy
