I read this over at the Team Camaro site and wanted to know if it was true or another rummer. This is an answer in reference to the GM archives.

Quote "Mark,I think they have the imfo.I'll tell you something else,Ed Cunneen (COPO) told me they found the info too, this conversation was when I called him about a 68 Nova SS 396 4spd car. Now was he lieing or telling the truth,we all know he has special connections in GM."
Well Ed?

Here is the link:http://www.camaros.net/forum/Forum2/HTML/004176.html

Well, that thread over at Camaros.net referenced BOTH Cunneen and Mattison as saying it was gonna happen, and in the last few months I have had a LOT of people say Mattison told them it was coming. It would be interesting to get an "off the record" comment from one or both of these gentlemen...(hint hint)...

I emailed JIm M. recently about something else related to this subject.
I have yet to hear back from him, which I want to believe means he is busy working on this project right now.It is only a guess on my part, but I can dream it's true. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif

I'm sure Jim M may add to this, but the process of obtaining, classifying, storing, and retrieving this information will continue be a long process.

Yes, it is true that my company is working on a project for Chevrolet Division to locate and organize all of the Chevrolet historical information. This project has been going on for a number of months, but we still have a lot more to do. At this point it is impossible to speculate exactly what all we will or will not be able to do or not do!

Everyone on the Supercar Registry board has my personal word that when we have announce, you folks will be the very first to know about it!

GM of Canada information was on microfilm and printed out like this. Is this how the American information was stored?

I talked to him about an unrelated topic 2 weeks ago.
I brought this subject up,and he said be patient, they're coming. He won't say when.He is going as fast as possible under the circumstances, but needs to be precise and accurate.

The last I had heard was that Jim had not been given permission to do the project yet and it was still being discussed at a coporate level as to whether they want to do it in house or outsource it to Jim. Are you saying Jim was given the go ahead ? That would be good news if he was.

If it does happen, and I hope it does, what a show that will be! Imagine all those guys who have sold all those "original LS-6" cars all trying to run and hide at the same time. I predict a lot of shotgun shells will be sold the day after the #'s are announced. Maybe they will make a movie out of it "Revenge of the Re-Stamped Block", naturally in 3-D, HDTV, Surround Sound.

Never mind the fake LS6 guys, the guys who faked the 435 horse Vettes will be the ones 6 feet underground first!

May be a good time to invest in small block chevy motors...If the GM records came out alot of big block owners will want to go back to original........dont think GM will want to start 50000 lawsuits, and they have nothing to gain by releasing them even IF they exist....

Benny
02-25-2004, 02:37 PM
I don't think GM is going to make a decision to publish the information based on the amount of lawsuits that would be launched. It's not like they would be dragged into court over a fraud case. All they would do is supply factory information.

Any court cases would be for fraud and misrepresentation. These cases occur everyday between small cheesy car dealerships and individuals who bought these cars e.g.(speedometer tampering, hidden collision damage, etc.). You don't see GM, Ford and Chrysler being dragged into the courts over those do you?

Let's not forget, Jim already does this for Pontiac and GM of Canada does it. If lawsuits would be a reason for not doing it, Jim and GM Canada would have stopped giving out the information a long time ago.

I'm no left wing democrat, but a business that is so interwoven in our culture has a corporate responsibility - If you can prevent fraud and crime from occurring and make a few million doing it, why wouldn't you?

Here's a question to put to you guy's - How much would you pay to document your car(s)? I don't have a high dollar car (z/28) but I would pay $1,000 per vehicle no problem!

02-25-2004, 04:57 PM
If the records exist, they probably will NOT be of much value to people that have buildsheets and verifiable docs already. I would suspect if they exist at all, they might include RPO info and a VIN (sort of like GM of Canada docs) but probably will not have the engine dates included. This means the guys selling fake "models"..COPO's, L78's, LS6's will up the proverbial creek, but not the guys with factory docs already. That is why in my opinion you would be crazy to spend big money on cars with nothing more than a POP right now. I know it takes time to get the info together and out, but I keep wondering whether it is a "pipe dream," that the info will be released at all...I'm curious as to why some of the big NCRS guys were never allowed access to it earlier..they after all are the ones' mainly responsible for the level of restoration going on today, and the interest in collectible GM cars as investments.

I spoke to Jim a few months ago about this. He is still banging his head against the corporate wall. He is facing a lot of GM buraucracy. I do not believe there has been any progress unfortunately.

Emailed Jim yesterday. He has walked away from the project. He said too much political BS and concern about the way the records would be used.

Well I'm stunned. These guys are on damage control already,i.e. Camaro dead,Mustang definitely isn't,etc.
Possibly to many people calling the shots, yet no one claiming responsibility for them.

We should not just let this go. What can we do as a group? It is much easier to keep things alive than get this going again 10 years from now.

Robert dont mean to quote you but How can getting the records out to all of us that would like them...be a bad thing????? it seems to me either a person has a real car or they dont...the paper just confirms that...to bad Jim has given up...due to GM not helping out...truly sad how GM has no desire to help out its loyal customers...they need to fire about 2/3 of the management and start over...

you got that right brother....only thing it appears Ford & Chrysler at least monitors the Internet and is answering the call of the customer....while GM brass is busy playing and not taking care of Business..last I heard they were driving BMW's over in the Hamptons...
