The February 1988 issue of 'Muscle car Classics' has a few interesting photos. I don't recall having the cars discussed on the site and was currious if anyone had any info. about them?

It has a feature article on Carl Dwiggin's Yenko Deuce.

On the top left of page 29 there is a 1969 Yenko Nova.

The caption Reads;"Ron Kacir restored this Yenko Nova purchased new by his brother. Ron rebuilt the car after it was damaged in a wreck and has been drag racing it since. Car ran 13.80s at 101mph. Power comes from a 350-cubic inch backed by a 4speed."

Then on page 28 at the bottom right there is a picture of a, "Metallic blue 1969 Yenko Camaro still has the original YSC headrest bucket seats. Mileage on this one is 44,858."

It is X11 trimmed, D80 equipped, endura bumper, white vinyl top and Yenko stripes and no 427 emblems on the cowl hood.

Then on page 82 there is a;" Restored 1970 427 Nova has new metalic blue lacquer paint job with clear coats and black pin striping. The 427-335hp was upped to 512 hp when engine was rebuilt. It is equipped with an M-22 rock rusher four speed and 12 bolt 4.11 gear posi rearend and heavy duty suspension. Car has never been wrecked and all chrome is original. Black stock bucket seats grace the interior. It is a one-owner car priced at $8,900.00". This car was for sale at Carlisle.

Other than the Red Deuce are these other cars fact or fiction?

There is also an extensive article detailing how to clone/fake Muscle cars to include COPO Camaros.

I believe the Chevelle community was still comming to grips with COPO Chevelles at this time, to reference how far the body of knowledge has evolved since then.

Correct me if I'm wrong Marlin; but isn't this Red ex-Dwiggins Duece the one I own now?

Carl was quoted as stating that it was his favorite COPO car of the three he owned at the time, and the others were L72 Camaros.

Marlin,
It is in writing.

The Deuce is in fact Kevin's. The rest of the cars are very suspect...BKH

I don't know who Ron Kacir is, but the Dwiggins deuce is now owned by SuperCars. I don't know of any racing in it's past, but apparently the car was 'found' in the Las Vegas area back in the '80's. Is it possible that Kacir is from the IL area?

This ex-Dwiggin's car has gotten better, and more correct with each successive owner - a good thing. Carl was not known for his 'correct' resto's, and this Deuce was no exception. Nothing majorly wrong with it when Carl had it done, just little things that were unnecessary; '69 Grille, a/c core support, carpet, removed the p/s, mirror etc... Now however, the car is looking good.

Who did the writing Steve, Carl or an editor? /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif

Marlin,
There is no question regarding the authenticity of Carl's former Deuce and I would say that back then his cars were mostly restored to the standards of the day. I would think that the we have all learned quite a bit more than we knew back in late 1987.

Ron Kacir's car was to have been a 1969 Yenko Nova. The magazine issue is filled with Novas. His brother was to have been the original owner. Could be a tracable Yenko Nova?

Looks like it was Silver/Light color?

I too have been researching this car but never got anywhere. I believe it to be just a painted up car that had emblems on it but who knows. I have never come across any other photos or mention of it in any drag publications. Someone can possibly run a license number from that era and see what comes up.

Rick,
Would be a great find don't you think?

Stephano,
I think we have all but tapped the available cars, now we have to start digging deep and finding the forgotten cars. As this year has proven, there are MANY out there, we just need to follow up on every lead no matter how rediculous they may sound. That is how I found the '69 L-72 Impala convertible. Not real interesting too many but very rare none the less.

Marlin,
I was told that my old deuce was the one that supercars now owns. I was told that the restoration was done by a guy from Kentucky, I think Dave tinnel(spelling?}
Am I getting my cars confused?

bill,
if it was owned by carl dwiggins , it was probably dave tinnells restoration!

Hey Bill;
Yes, that's your old car. I also heard that Tinnell did the resto, probably redid what this other guy did.

Kevin;
I'm not sure what you mean by the post about the Yenko Novas are red hot? Are you referring to the red Yenko Nova?

SuperCars
10-21-2002, 10:20 PM
Yep, my Red Deuce was restored by Dave Tinell. Dave also did the White 67 Yenko for me (now owned by Holub) that was at the Reunion. Those that have seen Dave's work know his craftsmanship to be among the finest. My Red Deuce shows virtually no aging. It is true, as Marlin pointed out, that there were some previous minor incorrect parts that Brian and others have now corrected.

Supercars,
Alot of the correction work on your deuce was done by bob harris at camaro specialties. We redid the interior in the correct fabric, we redetailed the engine compartment correctly put on the 70 grill put the correct sill plates on put the power steering back on the car and removed the rug and put in the rubber mat. From my research alot of the things that were done incorrectly were
the norm at the time of the restoration. I learned alot about the mistakes from marlin when i showed the car at the nova nationals in Harrisburg PA several years ago.

Okay, I knew there were others besides Brian. Bob Harris is good too. He restored my Berger COPO Camaro, and it is an excellent restoration.

I had to chuckle when I first read your post where you said you learned alot of mistakes from Marlin. I thought: "he can't be saying Marlin is teaching guys how to make mistakes"??? Just kidding Marlin.

marlin,
all yenko nova's, red, green whatever, hugger, they are soaring and popularity growing, seems tons of attention to all as of lately, especially those big blocks. know where i can find one?

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY

Kevin H;
Yes, I know where there is a BB Nova for sale, and it's probably the best restored L78 Nova in the country, call RowdyRat - you won't be dissappointed!

As for that red deuce, I learned something that weekend as well! I had told Bill that the fluted door lock ferrules were incorrect, but learned that they are correct and the smooth ones are for '71+. That's part of the fun, always learning something. Actually, I think Kevin S. and Kevin H. might be able to switch rear view mirrors between the Deuce and the 427 Nova. Kevin H's rear view mirror is only for cars with ZJ3 option, probably could have switched grilles and core supports back in the day as well. My only point is that it is nice to see a nice car get nicer, with each new owner.

Steve,
We restore our cars with the factory correct mistakes like overspray, various shades of black, uneven sheetmetal gaps, unperfect paint, paint runs, etc... Nothin wrong with that, that's the way they came /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Marlin,
I can only hope that you can teach me as much -about-
the mistakes on my camaro as you did on the nova. Believe
it or not I am still chasing that possible copo nova
in Western N.Y. I'll keep you posted.
