Am trying to dteremine what is the correct number of leafs in the rear springs of a 1969 369/375 Nova. 4-5-? Also, once determined, will need a good original set. Thanks; Tom

The Novas used the 5 leaf rear springs with 'concealed' anti-squeak pad pockets. They are not too hard to find, but decent sets will cost around $200+ and then might still need to be re-arched. I understand that Ron Norman is selling very nice repros if you'd like to investigate that option.

You will also need the non-F41 lower spring brackets, only the F41 version is currently available from GM. The F41's can be used, but you would have to hack or burn off the sway bar extension.

Marlin; Thanks, I just got off the phone with Ron, he has given me a couple of ways to go. Should be able to help. I had already spoken with Wayne, he had the info, but no springs. Tom

I have the right hardware, off of the Yenko, just a couple of springs were very rusty. Since Rob plans on racing the car, I figured I better have good parts. Tom

Tom;
What were Ron's suggestions? I might need a set for my '69 SS project.

Marlin, Ron is checking on a good used set. Also, he has had sets reproduced in the past, sold out, but may do another batch. I will keep you posted. Tom

Does anyone have a pic of the original style leafs?

I've used the repop springs from Ron N. they are very nice. Fit well, and have a good arch. Better than any others I've found. I like the coating that comes on them too. I think it is close to what was used on original cars including the frt sub frames. I hope they continue to produce them. I'm gonna need a couple of sets.

Do the spring ends look the same as the originals? As I recall,
originals were somewhat squared off on the ends of each leaf.
I'll have to contact Ron myself. How about the ride height?

Nuch

Clue me in on who Ron is please. Bodywork is almost done on my 70 and it will soon be time for paint and suspension.

I think Wayne gets them from Ron.

I will need a set for the Deuce this year, as the original springs are about done. I have been putting the spring 'upside down' on the axle during the launch because they are so weak. So, last year I put a band-aid on in the form of some cheap air shocks. This year it's time to get the good replacement springs, and put the air shocks on Benjamin's car to clear his 275/60R/15's on Cragars! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif The kid loves those wheels, breaks my heart http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif I've been told by a few folks here that 275-60s (14s) won't fit under a Nova. I'd love to mount my ProTracs on a set of SS or TT wheels and run them on the Nova. Lemme know if it works for you.

You're gonna have to jack it way up. Better get some extensions to go with the air shocks. And no riders in the back seat. Especially Howie. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Nah, the offset is pretty good, they'll fit just fine without having to jack it - they came from a certain '68 Gibb/Harrell Nova! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

The extenders on top of the air shocks does work though, (along with shackles), as I did it to get my L60's to fit on my first Nova. Nobody could ride in the back seat either, had plenty of slices in the L60 sidewalls!

Ooops, this pic is with the 275 radials, the rims were Ansen 15x8's with a lot of offset to the outside!

Ooops, wrong pic!

Here's the one with the L60's!

Boy, those are some wide meats! How fun was that to drive in this PA snow? Both cool! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif Do I see an aftermarket sunroof on the gray one?

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY

Yea, the L60's were pretty bad in the snow - but I usually put my snow tires on. The sunroof was a 17x35" unit, and was a welcome addition for a car with black interior and no a/c! Thing rode like a truck with those L60's on there, rode a bit nicer with the 275 radials - even nicer with 255 radials with the rear end down a few inches.

I have 245/50/16's on the rear of my clone and they told me they wouldn't fit either. I guess the tire shop doesn't know how to measure for backspacing? I saw the springs underneath your car on the Pypes site. I take it that's what the originals look like? I have only ever had Mono-leaf cars.

I never jacked mine up...I rolled the lips...and put the biggest tires in there that wouldn't rub...for the most part http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, those are the original type springs. The new repro's are very good, and the cars sit right with them. I gotta them soon, so I have time to install 'em!
