I get most of my nick-nacks at Ground Up Restoration in New York. I will get you a phone number when I get a chance. The Nova club now sells a sticker kit just for the Deuces, give them a call at 717-252-4192. The club also sells a lot of the little items as well, let me know if you would like me to fax you their parts list.

I appreciate all the information you can give me.will the decal kit show the correct places to put them?does it include all of the markings for the undercarriage?
YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY
11-20-2002, 02:05 PM
No, the sticker kit only contains some of the Deuce specific stickers, mainly the spring tags, backing plate tags etc... The undercarriage markings are usually different for each car, and they have to be determined when the car is taken down.
Most of the generic stickers and labels are available through Jim Osbourn Reproductions in Georgia, they have a good catalog so the Nova specific items are easy to find.
To what level are you restoring this car? Correct headed bolts, overspray, correct plating etc?? How are the seats, the original seat covers are difficult and expensive, we have a supplier in the Pacific NW for the material. If you need exhaust, call Gardner Exhaust in New York. They are the best, and they supply the correct twin resonator single muffler system. Put the whitewall's back on too!

I know it's correct but... /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif
No whitewalls on supercars. That is where the line is drawn. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Sorry! But it's the right thing to do, that is the way the cars came, no torque thrusts and no white lettered tires - especially not the firestones. A case could be made for the Goodyears only because of one of the brochure cars, but that car was a mockup and was not a COPO. The other brochure car is a COPO and has the whitewalls.
It takes some time to grow on you, but the whitewalls look ok. Nobody's crazy about paint overspray, slightly crooked labels, smog systems, strange looking crayon markings, bright splashes of paint on suspensions, and paint runs - but you have to appreciate those items in the sense of being 'correctly restored' as well.
Here's a pic taken very soon after the orig. owner brought the car home from Grossman Chev. He still has the original window sticker!

Hey, Marlin, this time I have to agree with Belk. the "right thing to do " is not always the best, as long as you can put it back to the right way. Compare your attachment to the picture of the April 2002 feature car,(I am a little partial I must say /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif ) Jim

Jim;
'Best' is a subjective term, since I like my whitewall's the best /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif I know they are not the most popular, but I can deal with that. I think it adds to the humility factor when you dust somebody!
Pete;
I don't have your GM of Canada sheet here at work, so what's the RPO code for the lettered tires? It must be something unique to Canada since the US cars couldn't be ordered with anything but whitewall or blackwall in '70. I can't attach the sheet of a loaded '70 L78 on EBAY, (it's too big) it has PL1 (?) for the white striped tires.

Not Bad, Not bad ...
I think it really depends on the type of wheel. The "SS" wheels on the Deuces with the whitewalls has a "different" non-muscle car look, IMO.

Sorry But I don't like whitewall tires on a Musclecars
(Just my opinion). /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif
There is a difference between Whitewall tires,and Whiteline tires.
Whitewalls are much wider and belong on Cadillacs.
Whiteline tires add to the definition of most any car, I think,even MuscleCars.
Joe Swezey's 68 Harrell Chevelle has Whiteline tires.

Chuck;
The Novas' standard 7in steel wheel was an XT code.
Casey Marks

You Deuce guys need to stay away from *our* Olds W-31 XT wheels !!! It's hard enough to find them in decent shape. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif Just put IF 's on it. They *look* the same ........ /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif
YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY
11-21-2002, 01:42 PM
Hey now! Us Deuce guys only use the XT wheels for the spare tire, Don gave us Magnum 500's for the 4 corners - about a 1/2 pound weight savings per wheel, multiply by 4.5 (?) since it's rotating mass, which gives an effective weight savings of about 9lbs (?) /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
Casey Marks
11-21-2002, 02:29 PM
One here ..... one there ..... they all add up. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif
On that note - were the Magnums also 14x7's ? (I'm assuming). From my cough-cough Mopar experience with Magnum 500's, they always *seemed* heavier than a plain steel wheel of like size. Those pot-metal center caps are heavy. It's interesting that they are actually lighter than a steel wheel. As a matter of fact - - speaking of Mopars - - a 15x7 Rallye wheel (you know, the ones you see on Cuda's and Challengers all the time ..), fully dressed are DEFINITELY heavier than a steel wheel, including the button cap.
OK - sorry to bore you with the Mopar factoids ..... /ubbthreads/images/icons/blush.gif

Hey Schoneye; I keep my rpm's low and ease the clutch out, otherwise, your right - they don't hook on the street.
Pete;
I'm looking at your cert sheet from GM of Canada, I don't see the PL1 for white stripe tires. Was there a special canadian code for the white letter tires? sort of like the ZQ7 option specifically for 'CANADIAN WARRANTY BOOKLET & MISC LITERATURE'?

Hey Marlin, my first experence with e70s and a deuce was sideways. Happened as I was leaving Rapid chev with the car. Turned to go up 1st ave, stepped into it a little, and we're sideways. I understand the originality, or personal prefrence for white stripe e70s, but back when these cars were on the street, they were the first things to leave. Pulling up side a 428 cobrajet mach one with L60s, while you had on e70s, was not a good thing! At least that way though the mustang might have had a chance /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

S;
I wholeheartedly agree, an 'E' vs. an 'L' is no contest. I'm sure you would have caught the 428 slug in third gear though, that's where I found I can really pour it on without losing traction with the 'E's.
Did you ever soak your tires back in the day? We soaked a few for the pure stock drags, didn't work much better.

Steve,
Check out the prior years results at the pure stock race in MI. Deuces are capable of runnin in the high 13.2's, 13.7's in 90 degree temps with high humidity. I think there have been a few 428 stangs at the pure stock event, but I don't remember what they ran. I don't recall them being very competitive when I was at those races.
Any car can lose a street race on any given day based who is behind the wheel!

"We soaked a few tires for the Pure Stock Drags"....... CHEATER, CHEATER,CHEATER!!!!!!!!... and we still kicked your a@@ /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif Did'nt see the PL1 either. Thought it would be on there or something else. Original owner says it had white lettered tires. Maybe the dealership changed them as if you notice on the bill of sale, it lists polyglas tires in hand writing.

Pete;
It wasn't cheating until the rule was defined. I believe that issue came about due to the rubber hanging off of a particular Mopar /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
I would go with the dealership changing your tires to the white lettered version. I know that happened to a few Deuces here in the states as well. It was hard enough to sell these Deuces with a base price of $4,500, let alone with whitewalls!

Stefano,
I have nothing to do with this, I personally feel the 428 cj's are slower. That's all.
Now, if someone else tells you they want a shootout, that's a different situation. Personally, I wouldn't want to race Pete's Nova either, JJ's just plain nuts, I dont' even think he knows there's a clutch pedal down there /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Geeze, didn't mean to start a spittin match. We had more mopars in the area than Fords, but guess we'd better not go there. Marlin, we tried bleech one time during a burnout, but don't think it did much good. To clairify, do not confuse a 428 SUPERcobrajet, with a regular run of the mill cobra jet. SCJ's will with the right amount of coaxing run pretty well, probably better than a Boss 429 in street trim. Now withrespect given to the SCJ, what is it Pete says, when the flag drops the b ll s it stops? Schonye /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Not having a spitting match at all. Just feeling a little reckless, and it makes for an interesting read! Had our first snow and I'm getting itchy already. It gunna be a long winter... Ever seen Barrie Poole make his 428 Stangs work????? Just get out of his way! Yes, The Bull Sh## stops when the green flag drops!

Hey Schoneye, I'd rather run against a Ford than a Mopar or Pontiac. From what I have seen, the stock blue ovals just don't do well at the strip.
Here's some numbers from the 2000 Pure Stock Drags.
'68 Ford-Shelby Stang GT500KR w/ 428/335, 3a - best run: 14.383 at 95.75.
'70 Ford-Mach I w/ 428/335, 4m - best run: 14.100 at 98.69.
'68 1/2 Ford-GT Stang w/ 428/325, 4m - best run: 13.258 at 106.64.
The last car ran pretty good, but that was the year of the L89 Novas - JJ's '69 went 12.504 at 110.57 and Neal's '68 went 12.945 at 107.66. Terry Pennington's L89 '68 Camaro went 12.883 at 105.14.
Just food for thought.
