Man, that is sooooooooo sweet /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif
Question, is that the same garage or dealer that had the 69 Chevelle Cortez Silver SS Sedan for sale on ebay recently?
That shop is so /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

Awesome looking car and the paint is fantastic. ? on the RS emblems though I thought the side Fender emblems would read Rally-Sport instead of Camaro and shouldnt it have the RS emblems near the front fender turn indicators? Or since its a COPO Car were these deleted. Dont flame me to bad, Im still learning.

Jeff,
I would say that you are correct regarding the RS Script toward the door but there was no other RS trim on the '69s infront of the marker light on the fenders.(That was '67's) That is where the engine designation would go for non L72 COPO Camaros.

When a COPO was specified the production order scheduled Z27, Camaro SS equipment. COPO engineering specs then "deducted" all SS badging, and "added" others. Bow-ties for standard Camaros, rally-sport emblems for RS Camaros. Since an SS-RS did not have the rally-sport side emblems nothing was added, leaving only the "Camaro" script.
What a gorgeous COPO!

OK, I want it! Will he take $4500 for it? That's all I have left, the rest of my money is in my JL8 car! That's a sweet looking car, but I do have to say it looks weird without the RS emblems. Thanks for the explanation William.

William, another ? if you dont mind. Since its an X11 car and was built as a COPO with the RS option would it be considered an RS/SS car since it was not a SS 350? I would think that the car was built as a RS and not a RS/SS thus should have the RS emblems as you state above. Hard to see the front Grille emblem but I beleive its shows RS not SS, Withe RS on the Grille Should it not have the Rally-Sport emblems on the fenders? If it were a SS it would be a Blue Bowtie on the grille and camaro on the Fenders. Again learning as I go.

Jeff, the X11 body trim code only denotes a base car with style trim, which would include base RS models, and all SS350 models with style trim whether it was an RS or not. As William states above, the RS COPO cars received the "Camaro" script instead of the "rally sport" script as on a normal base non-SS Rally Sport. This was due to the COPO specified addition/deletion of items from a normal SS car. I hope I did not confuse you more. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif .................RatPack.......................... .

I am not sure about the emblems being correct on this car but I do know that is an SS grille and that SS cars had SS emblem on grille not blue bow tie.

I would agree that that is what should have happened as far as RS emblem placement, and since this is a mostly original paint car then there is no question, However there was an awesome Hugger Orange RS COPO at the recent Vette Fest which has pictoral documentation going back to August of 1970 (I believe) which shows the RS script installed.
Just as interesting were the Fathom Green RS COPO by Berger and the X22 Trim Hugger COPO Camaro.
I have an article from 1984 showing a COPO 427 Camaro RS with 20K miles original paint and it has the rally sport script on the fenders. The guy has documents on the car sold from LB Hartman Chevy in Salamaca NY. The owner states that he talked with the dealer who told him they sold 2 427 COPO Camaros in late 69.

Every RS COPO that I have seen that was unrestored had the Camaro fender scripts instead of the Rally Sport lettering. Now this does not mean that some slipped through with it, but the norm is the Camaro emblem on the fender. Check out the attachment of the Lemans Blue RS ZL-1, that car is unrestored and it has the Camaro emblem...................RatPack.................. ...

The old sayings apply, no one knows it all and the factory could be relied upon to do things the wrong way.
What I don't like is when people have a documented car which came one way from the dealer or factory and change it to meet the current accepted standards and just please 'Judges' or so called experts. If you can document it and want to keep it that way then go with it. If your out to please the Judges then that is OK too.
BTW, Clill, the finger print/swipe on the backside of your ZL1s deck lid cannot be factory correct it does not match the one on Barnhardt's ZL1 /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif
A COPO which the factory never was to have made, and thus shouldn't exist is an X22 Super Sport COPO Camaro. I certainly would like to own the awesome Hugger X22 COPO shown at the Vette Fest, especially since it is one of one /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
It's possible they came both ways. There have been COPO Chevelles found with 3 different type steering wheel emblems. The assembly line people may have been confused on what to use on the COPOs since there were so few built.

The white RS is probably an Emmert (http://www.copo.com/L72-VIN-69-Emmert-Camaro.htm) COPO.

That white COPO RS appears to have the rallysport script, not the Camaro script. It's hard to really tell from the picture though.

On the picture of that Lemans blue ZL1 it appears that the sides of the cowl hood are painted white. Was this a factory job, or dealer paint. Really like it, just trying to find out who did it. Thanks, Ken S.

Ken, that was done by the dealer so as to help make the car more appealing. It does look good as I had done a 68 RS that way once back in the late 80's. If you notice the dealer also added a pin stripe to the top of the hood in the same position as the outside edge of a Z28 stripe. I think I may still have a picture of that car showing the pinstriping on the hood plus the decklid. It looked like someone was going to apply Z28 stripes and only did a pinstripe outline. Not really that appealing but still a neat car.
Look closely and you will see that the dealer added the 66 Impala 427 crossed-flag emblems to the fenders and the 67 Vette 427 emblems to the hood......................RatPack................

Ken, here is a picture of that 68 RS that I painted the sides of the scoop on the hood. It had an 1/8" black pinstripe around it with the same amount of body color between the pinstripe and the stripe body. It really set the hood off and made the scoop appear longer................RatPack..................... .

Thanks for the info, and the pics. I really like that look. We have a 67 project that we may start this winter, and might do something like that on the hood. Maybe a little lace inlay, or airbrushed herringbone. I'm a sucker for that late 60's look. Ken S

Ken, I am a "Day 2" person all the way. I do restorations as a business but occasionally I get to do a car the way the first owner modified it. As a matter of fact I am doing one right now, a 67 327 4spd, Cragars, Sun tach & gauges, Traction Masters, etc. I will take a set of Cragars or Torque-Thrusts over a set of stock wheels any day!
Belair62, that was the first set of those spinners I had ever owned and I could not stand them on that car. I was getting ready to install the std center caps and I sold the car. When the guy came back to get the car he saw the std caps sitting on the work bench and asked if he could have those instead of the spinners. So I traded him. I think they are still around here somewhere, or they may be at my parents' house.....................RatPack................. ....

Thanks Stefano...that's definitely my intention. Got the car yesterday, and I believe it's EVERYTHING that Brian, Kenny and Frank described it to be! The original set of keys are worn and almost waffer thin. Story has it they spent a couple years in the pocket of the original owner's pocket during his tour of duty in Viet Nam. He's definitely one of my new heroes!
