Here are some ultra-cool pictures of a Deuce doing it's thing at the track from Schoney. Here is the story:

"jpgRob, I'm sending you some pics I got from Robert Schmidt yesterday. He is the original owner of this car sold new out of Mancuso in ILL. Said he raced it around the Chicago area for a few rears before moving to FLA. No metion of et, but good air.He was a previous owner of my Little Rock deuce."

Marlin, I'm confused about the astro blue copo belair is refering to. I thought the only non Yenko copo novas were the Canadian ones, one owned by Pete, other one I'm not sure about. Whats the story? Schonye /ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif

Schoneye;
You are right, there were only those two COPO Novas that went to canada that we are aware of. Bob has told me about this Astro blue car before, but to my knowledge it appears to be an owner transplant. Until we can talk to an owner or the orig. owner of the car, we really don't know how it ended up with an LT1. However, stranger things have happened, could've been an engine swap done by Mancuso!

Wish I could get in touch with him after all these years. He bought the car new at Mancuso and it was one of the fastest at school. His brther bought an L78 70 Nova in silver from the same dealer. That car was still under blankets 10 years ago with 22k on the odometer. The Astro blue car gave way to a 68 427 Corvette a couple tears after he bought it. I will try again to make contact with him. I know he worked at O'hare airport for a longtime.

Was there any reason why Yenko was the only dealer to order the '70 COPO Novas?

Is there some Doulass * COPO Novas out there somewhere? /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

That's a very good question, we don't really know why nobody else jumped on the '70 LT1 Nova bandwagon. One things for sure, it makes tracking and identifying the Yenko Deuces a lot easier!

The 70 Z/28 got a lot of attention when it showed up late and may have stole the limelight from the LT1 Nova. Both were great cars but Chevy wanted to promote the Z/28 since it was RPO.

I run into a guy at local shows that also claims to have bought a 1970 nova with a LT-1 in it from the factory. He is well versed in engines and says there is no doubt it was an LT-1. He purchased the car new and says he really didn't think anything of it until he heard about the yenko deuces. He is trying to find the car. Hopefully he finds it. I believe the guy. Belair62: This one is blue also!! Could it be?

I don't think a lot of dealers jumped on the wagon, as some got stuck with the 427 Camaro's and they were worried the insurance company's would getting wise. The LT-1 was still new as to real performance capabilities.

What class did this car run in? Was the LT1 Nova approved by NHRA for Super Stock class?

Pete;
I think you are right on the money, the deuces were the same price as the L72's from '69 and the dealers did not want to get stuck with more high-priced inventory. Yenko Chev. still had 3 deuces on 1/1/71, H&H had one in Nebraska, Rapids Chev still had some I think, and Colonial had a whole bunch of them left. So, after the initial sales flurry of deuces, (several were sold within weeks of hitting the show floor), the remainder of them did prove difficult to sell.

JoeC;
NHRA has never classified the '70 Nova with an LT1. The NAAR in Oakmont, PA did classify it in F/Stock.

Took delivery of mine from Rapids 4/3/71. The gobi beige/yellow deuce that Jerry Alberts owns was still there.4650.00 was a lot of money for a rubber mat, bench seat, and am radio car. I don't think an LS6 chevelle would have been much more, depending on the options. Schonye

The Sun Yellow Deuce from H&H in Sioux city sold on 1/2/71. The orig. owner was in town for a new years eve party, and needed to make a beer run. As he drove past H&H, this screamin yellow deuce was inside. He stopped to check it out, and then bought it the next day or so!

Colonial sold their citrus 4sp deuce in May of '71, that's the latest sell date that I know of for Deuces.

I've got his old address somewhere. Finding it could be a problem. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif He bought this one new from Mancuso. Sold it to a friend, and quickly knew he had messed up. Tried to buy it back for a while, but the guy wouldn't sell, so he bought a red deuce from Vince Emme that had been sold from Clif Peck. He semi started to resto it, when the guy decided to sell him back the green deuce. The red deuce came to Ia., and I have it now. Robert was at last years reunion. Maybe Tom, or Rob has a new address.
