Just arrived. SS454 El Camino, LS6 450 HP, 4 speed, posi 4.10, buckets, console, guages w/tach, AM/FM, power steering, etc, as you see in the attached picture. Also, it has a build sheet. How many of these are there? I've come across 2 or 3 over the years that were supposed real, but didn't have build sheets. I'm guessing there are less of these than there are LS6 Convertibles.

George Johnson in Texas has a green one that he affectionately named "Kermit". He was the gentleman at SCR5 with the black COPO Camaro. Neat cars, but VERY traction limited!
Kevin,
Dan Carr put together a poster with production figures based on a statistical analysis. He lists 185 non-cowl LS-6 4 speeds, 159 cowl induction 4 speeds, 105 non-cowl autos, and 91 cowl induction autos. Total LS-6 Elcamino auto and 4 speed production was 540 using a pure statistical analysis.
Great looking truck and certainly rare.

Kevin, awesome addition to your collection. I located and documented an original owner Shadow Grey LS-6 Camino only 5 miles from my house last year complete with build sheet. The car was built in the Leed's plant and delivered to Clement's Chev in Rochester, MN the same week another identical Shadow Grey LS-6 Camino was delivered there. That car was reported to have found it's way to Reggie's collection only to burn in the warehouse fire. I have not been able to confirm that rumor however. Regardless of how many were made, very few still exist. Enjoy her! /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Is that your new tow vehicle? I've always liked the big block El Caminos.

Kevin,
A nice vehicle, with the right colors! Do you have any dealer info.? It happens to have that color combo that makes me suspicious of a Dick Harrell combo.
Only Chevrolet can say for sure how many were actually built.I have seen 8 documented in the past, thats just me.But I have not been searching for these,so I don't know if that number has risen or fallen since.
I do collect a lot of Chevrolet Literature and Memorabilia, and I have seen Canadian books and catalogs and Zone letters refer to the 1970 LS-6 Elcamino much more frequently then the U.S. circulated literature. It stands to reason that when I did hear or see one of the LS-6 Elco's,it originated from Canada.
There was nice Forest Green LS-6 up there recently..

That was a nice one ! Can I have one to ?
There is a guy in Gothenburg (Sweden) who has one LS-6 Chevelle and one LS-6 El Camino. The real thing, I believe.
HeÄs dragracing a Corvette.

Ken, that would be neat to find a Harrell El Camino. But this one came from Bob Baker Chevrolet in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is great combo with colors and as equipped by it's options like you say though.
Very nice el camino. Did they make any that were 396/375?
...if so, do you know how many?

I would think that el camino would photo graph nicely next to Joe's AWESOME Dick Harrell chevelle with those color combos. Just my opinion.
"MOF"
They did put the 396/375HP in the 1970 Elco.I know of three documented so far.A few More without paper.I have even found one with the elusive 396/375 with L-89 Al.head option.I am still in touch with the owner to try to buy it.That truly is a "SuperTruck".

I had a 70 396/375 Elky a few years back. It had the buildsheet. Very neat car/truck. I'll post a pic if anyone is interested.

for sale or trade? was this on a truck to illinois a few weeks ago with brian at concours headed towards another famous collection, if so it was night time, 10:30 pm and i was told that another member on the board owned the car and i didn't take the time to see it, he also failed to tell me it was an LS6 if it was the same car/truck. boy, those truck drivers sure do own some very nice cars for a short period of time, more than all of us put together, not to mention seeing more than we ever will, i wonder what there insurance rates are? ha! nice car/truck, would be welcome at the next supercar reunion!

Yes Kevin H, Brian/Concours Transport had it on the truck when he stopped at your place. Then on to Mike's place in Illinois before coming to Seattle.

Actually the US Air Force was the biggest collector of these High horse El-Caminos. They had a Fleet of 6 for (then) classified activities through the 1970's and 80's. It is great history, which stayed classified through the early 90's when the fleet was retired- and replaced with another Chevy offering.
Does anyone else out there know about this?? /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

U-2 chase vehilces, Udorn AB Thailand. I believe they then moved to Beale AFB in California after that they most likely went to surplus at Barstow

Most impressed Hawaiian- you are way up there on the info ladder. Must have been tricky to attach the gear to the wings at speeds of 95+ MPH. Thanks for saving me the pain of writing it all up! /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

No actually I just did the research to find the information out. The only others that knew during the active years were the pilots and the support crews, or AF personnel who got to watch. I understand that it was quite a drag race to catch the plane. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
