Possible Dealer Built Camaro

I recently purchased a group of 12 basket case Camaros from a pack rat who has been collecting 25 years. One of the cars has be thinking it may have possibly been a dealer built car. The cowl tag decodes as a 67 396 rs/ss, or so the guy who owned it says, but he swears when he bought the car 15 years ago (Texas) that it had a blown 427 in it, whats left of the motor is the valve covers which are MT aluminum finned with the chevy logo on one and 427 on the other. What I find intriging is the rear end. It has a 12 bolt posi with some type of odd square traction bar? assemblies that requires two access plates to be cut in the floor under the rear seat. It appears to have been done years ago and looks original to the car. I remember reading something a long time ago about this set up, anyone know if something like this was native to any of the early dealer built cars? I have another post going on the classified page for anyone who would have an interest in a original intra office letter from ford concerning a secret visit to Nickey and Grand Spaulding Dodge to ascertain if Ford should conduct similar dealer operations. MotownMadman, the traction bar you describe sounds like the factory one installed on the SS396 cars and other hp model Camaros in 67. Check out the picture attachment. Does it look like that? There should only be one on the passenger side of the vehicle. This picture is from a Z28, but the one on the 396 was the same, others used a round bar and different axle bracket..............RatPack............

Rat Pack, I bought these cars in Texas recently, I have yet to bring them home so after recieving your message I went and reviewed the video I had took of all of them, I was mistaken, the previous owner descibed them as duel traction bars, round, I didnt get under the car with the video camera, but the floor on both sides under the rear seat has been modified, it appears to have square panels that were cut out and replaced, or modified in some way, the cowl tag says 4N. Thanks.

I had a Canadian 67 RS/SS that had the dual traction bars. From what I was able to find out, the passenger side was a factory piece, but the driver's side was an "I" beam shaped bar that I was told was common on the 67 Firebirds. Maybe Canada added these bars but most likely an owner add on. Hope this helps.

Hey Jeff...being Canadian and into 67's, I can tell you that "Canada" didn't install the second bar /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

The I-beam type were on Firebirds.
