Does anybody know for sure how many COPO Camaro's were delivered to and sold by Glockner Chevy, I believe Portsmouth? Ohio in 1969. I have a friend who owns one and he has had conflicting reports as to how many left that dealership. Info would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks. /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

Several years ago I went with a friend to look at some parts near Portsmouth. We started talking and found the guy had some other Camaros. One was a Burgandy COPO from Glockner that he had purchased new. He said there were 20 COPO Camaros at the dealership and he drove them all and that one seemed the fastest....was an automatic. He also had a black Camaro that he thought was an original Motion car. He said he had written Rosen a letter trying to ID the car but Rosen replied that he was not able to document the car at that time but would be interested in buying it.

...And Glockner is still in business.

OK, here is the info on my friends car, he was curious if there was any way to tell if this car was an original RS, it had got smacked sometime in its life and had new sheet metal on the front, it has the RS wiper motor with ports for the headlight washers which has us wondering. Also, the car has a new tail panel. Any thoughts on this would be apprieciated. VIN N639108 Cowl Tag NOR286032 TR 715 51 51 PNT 05A X-11 Probebly no way we will ever know unless someone has records from Glockner.

There are a couple of things to look for even with those items being replaced. First look for the hole in the firewall where the vacuum hoses came through for the RS headlight doors. Second look at the headlight switch, most often they are not replaced if converted back to a std front end. Now eventhough the car has the w/w motor & pump for an RS it does not mean that it did not come with the car. The headlight washer system was available on any Camaro in 69 and this car could have had it...................RatPack...................... ...

Good point about the headlight washer option. Have you ever seen a COPO with only the headlight washer system? It would Kinda be like a COPO Camaro with liquid tire chain option.

Interesting story and while there may be some or even all truth to it, it is very far fetched, unlikely and improbable.

Obviously if Glockner did have 20 COPOs in one place at one time (?) all would have had to been on the grounds prepped with none presold in order for him to have test driven all the cars.

Most dealers who sold a few of the cars had one or two as a demo, but many had not one single Super Car Demo.

copo69, You stated that Glockner was still in business, I called information and they had nothing listed, do you have or have any way of getting their Phone Number? Thanks

Stefano, That was kind of my thought, I cant imagine a dealer letting a guy drive twenty cars, or for that matter what would be the point of driving twenty of the same cars. The information my friend has so far indicates between two and seven cars. So far the most convincing information has two Dusk Blue, one Burgandy, and one Frost Green. This site is the place for the truth to come out. Thanks.

Here is link for Scioto Co. Dealers... Glockner has several other franchises. I agree the story seems far-fetched... just passing on what I was told. The cars were packed pretty tight in a small garage and there were some other BB Camaros also. This was maybe 15 years ago so details are very fuzzy.

I know of at least two 70 model Yenko Duece that were sold at Glockners. One was red and was owned by someone in South Shore Kentucky and the other was yellow own by Danny Patton of Portsmouth Ohio.

no COPO, but my 66 chevy II L/79 had a glockner decal on the trunk. they used to be in downtown portsmouth, but have moved to a newer location on route 23 north. i hope this doesn't effect your paper trail. things get lost in a move like that. dennis

SuperSteve, the yellow you recall was probably gobi beige, looks like yellow - till you park next to a yellow car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Where is Danny Patton today?

I used to own the Burgundy Glockner COPO VIN 638868 (photo attached). It had the original window sticker. I wrote Glockner a letter in about 2004 and offered $$ for docus - also called. All old docs destroyed, they said.

Also have another Glockner car - 67 L78 Camaro. They were apparently real HIPO sellers!

Stefano my Cortez Silver 4 spd COPO from Indian River Chevrolet has the Headlamp Washer System and it is not a Rally Sport. I have the factory invoice for the car with the detail. I believe Ed Cuneen told me it was the only one known.

Danny lives near Portsmouth Ohio. The Yenko is long gone. I don't know if he has any information as where it is now. I doubt it, because he would sure like to have it back.

Marlin,
Did they make the Dueces in Sunflower yellow. Was Sunflower Yellow even available in 70?

camarojoe

Marlin can verify, but Sunflower Yellow was indeed one of the new "spring colors" introduced within the second batch of 50 Deuces... Hugger Orange and Citrus Green were also added at this time. 10 of each were built. These 3 new colors replaced Gobi Beige, Cortez Silver, and Forest Green... Those 3 colors were only offered in the original batch of Deuces. Cranberry Red and Fathom Blue carried into the second batch with an additional 10 cars of each color being built along with the 3 new spring colors.

Our own Schoney has a Sunflower yellow Deuce he bought brand new in 70 from Rapids Chevrolet, and is one of the nicest unrestored Deuces out there. He had it at SCR2.

The spring colors don't show up in all 70 paint code books. My old Dupont book doesn't show it, while the old ppg/Ditzler does. I think that adds to some confusion about availability.

I found this in the 1970 April price schedule with Citrus,Hugger and Sunflower denoted.

Those four Spring colors have a notation to salesmen on the back that says,"Commencement of production of the NEW Spring colors is January 15,1970".
Earlier then I thought..

I thought that Sunflower Yellow was available... wasn't the really rusty car that was on Ebay a few years back originally Sunflower Yellow?

Mr70
06-15-2006, 08:01 AM
Yes & Yes.
That 4 color chart was geared towards the Full size Chevrolets & Chevelles.
Sunflower on the Nova was available shortly after these colors were.

Hi Danny,

When you say 'yellow', do you mean a really bright yellow (like new Corvette yellow) or a softer, lighter yellow (the color of butter)?
