With the Recall of the 1st Gen Camaros in the 70's the dealerships installed straps to the mounts to prevent the engine from turning over to much creating stuck throttles (if the mount seperated). To have a correctly restored Camaro be it base car or COPO should the straps be in place since it was GM directed or doesnt it matter and can be either way, with or without?

Very interesting question.
I would think it would be "correct" either way.

I had a 69 Z28 with the Registered Recall letter. It was dated 1972 so I wouldn't think you would restore a 69 Z that way.

I had a recall letter for my 68 Camaro, I did what everyone else did, threw it in the garbage, very few people took there cars in for this, so I do not think this would be considered a must for a correct resto!

In the Corvette world, the resto is "as delivered to the dealer". So using that definition, no I wouldn't restore the car with the device.

I have actually had one of those mounts come apart on me. I was peeling out from a stop sign. It made a horrible noise, and I ended up with a nasty gouge in the radiator. There was no other damage, but I was lucky. And that was only a 327, I would hate to have that happen with a big block. I use the later style interlocking mounts now.

I believe this problem was only with the small block motor mounts. The metal parts were just bonded to the rubber in the middle. The big block mounts on our car had metal tangs that interlocked keeping the mount more or less together if the rubber ever came apart. We never got a recall on our COPO car and never had a motor mount problem in over 160K miles of driving. With the original small block mounts it would be a good idea to find one of these limiter cable setups and install it.

I have some doc's from 72 as well.I would change the mounts if they have not been changed, they are junk.I tend to agree with the as delivered concept......why not put them in the trunk with the recall notice. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I have seen the GM hold down kits for big block. If the recall was for small block only, were the b/b kits sold through the parts counter? I bought one a couple months ago. It was listed for b/b no a/c, no smog. I bought it anyway, and they were right. I also bought one for small block with air. It will fit my b/b with air, if I make a small bracklet to extend from the a/c bracket to the cable (less than 1")
