Charley, A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of being included in a special indoor display at My Classic Car's show with this car. And, the owner had another neat car there, a 427 competition Cobra. I spent two days drooling over the two cars. I wish Rob had been there. He thinks I am crazy cause I like Fords, but I tell him they are Sheblys', not Fords. To me a BIG diffeence.

Charley,

------In 69(I think)my cousin bought a 67 GT500 from a Goodyear exec who was very close to Mr.Shelby.Along with the 427,it was one of 3(supposedly)built with a Paxton supercharger setup. It also came with Tubular Automotive headers. The kind that had the 2 front pipes on both sides go forward around the front crossmember. The perverbial bundle of snakes. My cousin would mash them flat about once a week. All in all a pretty special car and one of the faster Fords I ever saw on the street.........Bill S........ol red!

Charlie,

Correct me if I am wrong, but, was this the same car Farrah Faucet posed on in the eighties?

Charley,
With Henry being the shrewd business man he was, I'm surprised he would have wasted so much metal on that extra long battery hold-down. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif I guess as a 1 of 1, he didn't lose that much.
I have to agree though, it's not a Dark side journey when referring to this car. Don't ever tell anyone I said this but there are even some interesting Mopars still hangin' around. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Charley, here is a photo of another long lost Shelby, this is the day I brought it home from a warehouse from sitting since 1969. This was Team Shelbys 1968 #2 Trans Am GT-350 Notchback with the one year only 302 Tunnel Port engine, it was raced white, then yellow, then blue its last three races. It is currently undergoing a full correct restoration and will be running in the Vintage circuit this year. It is the only Ford I own other than a work truck, but I couldnt resist the history or the opportunity to run the real race tracks, so alas, a true Chevy lover breaks down, I guess we all have a weak moment at some point in our life.Motown /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

That is one beautiful car. Like someone said, a Shelby Mustang sounds, looks and runs better than an ole Ford. So you haven't crossed over the line yet.

What would the difference be between yours and lets say the Gt 350 or was that a 500 from Gone in 60 Seconds?
Another awesome Stang. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Thanks... A normal GT350 has either a 289 or 351 and is rated at 306 or 290 hp. A Normal GT500 has a 428 that is rated at 335-355 hp. Mine from what I have read so far makes anywhere from 520 - 650 hp. If you wanna see more of the car, go to comfortcarconnection.com. On the main page there is a Link to watch a 1967 Movie with Carroll Shelby driving it at the Goodyear test track in San Angelo Texas, testing Thunderbolt tires. He takes the Editor of Time Magazine for a ride in the car. It is a very Cool part of the cars History. They set a Record, going 500 miles at a Average speed of 142 mph. According to books, Carroll reached 170 at one time. Also on that web page in the cars for sale area you can click on the pic of the SuperSnake and see a bunch of pics and the Shelby Invoice.

Charley,
That's a beauty - and a cool video too! Did Shelby have to beat the shock towers to get that 427 to fit? I know those Mustang engine mays were a tight fit for big block Ferds...
So where can you find a set of Goodyear Thunderbolts?

The 427s and 428s do fit between the stock shock towers of the'67-'68 Mustangs. It is the Boss 429s which were very wide at approx. 30 inches which needed a bit of help getting shoe horned into the 1969-1970 cars.

Clill,
I believe that your Shelby is the only 1967 Documented to have had a 427 installed by Shelby American, Inc.

I checked the Shelby World Registry which has info on Super Snake on page 615. All the Shelby invoives for the 1967 Cars were found and they show a total of only three cars with 427 engines and only two of the three with the GT40 spec 427 ever produced by Shelby American. Inc.

MotownMadman

Gasser, I am still trying to get over the fact that one minute your car was for sale and the next minute you posted it as no longer on the market, so all my cash chasing was in vain, then I read its back on the market and before I can blink...Poof it sold! Ahh the pity, the old day late routine, thats what happens as we all spin on the flywheel of life and the older you get... the faster you go... the closer to the edge... and less time to do or buy everything we want. Anyway, good eyes, the green thing in the background is a very odd Camaro indeed, maybe you can help shed some light, I discussed it in detail earlier here, go to page three on the Supercar-Musclecar discussion and read the post "unusual X-44 Camaro", I had photos posted but I mistakenly wiped them off my host service. I may sell the thing, it is a really solid nice low mile car. Merry Christmas and holidays to you, Motown /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

Charley - What's this "Dark Side" business. More power to you if you like more than Chevys. You can't say that other manufacturers didn't make neat muscle cars. Sweet Shelby! Congratulations.

Charley:

Are you going to try and pick up a new GT40 to add to your "dark side" collection? Anyone else got there eye on one?

I was just talking to a Ford Marketing Rep. They have more dealers than cars and still haven't determined who will be getting the cars. Its to be based on CSI.

Still very likely that most dealers who do qualify will only get one car. It will be interesting to see what happens with the supply/Demand situation with this car?

Three prototypes do exisit but they will not be called GT40s as Ford does not own the rights to the name.

JChlupsa

If im not mistaken Ford offered the folks that own the name rights to GT40 3 cars + a cool Million but they want way more than the Million offered.

Stefano, It is not official how Ford will distribute the GT40 cars to the dealers. My zone rep says it might be based on who won Fords dealer presidents awards, or on the Blue Oval Certification program. I know that they will for sure be sold for 100+k by the dealers (us included /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif ). I heard that the person/company that owns the name GT 40 wanted some redicules amount like 40 mil for the name. Ford passed and will just stick with the name GT.

Keep us posted as things develop. I've seen production guesstimates from a few hundred to a few hundred a year. Clearly a cool car that could be a neat deviation from original muscle cars. Seems like the pricing may be even more favorable than the new vs. old ZL-1s (old GT40s seem to be on the order of $400K and up). They are awesome cars both in terms of on the track performance and in person to look at:

I hope the new one is too.

The picture in my previous post are the original pre-1966 versions (small blocks) taken at a vintage race in England this fall. Here is the new one:

Belair, nice observation about the blue oval. One of my customers pointed out an interesting thing to me. Their was a time when Ford did not want the blue oval on any car. FORD script/emblems only. It was supposed to be some image thing. It seems kind of weird that they wouldn't want their own logo on their cars doesn't it? I may be wrong on this but try to think of a Ford car from the 50's or 60's that had the blue oval on it. Im really not a Ford guy (I just work at a place that sells them! /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif ) so I could be wrong about this.

FYI: Here's a link to some more info: 2004 Ford GT40 (http://www.nctd.com/sneakpreview.cfm?ReviewID=24)

500 hp/500 ft lb out of a supercharged 5.4L should produce 0-60 times around 4 sec. and still hit a theoretical 200+ mph!

Belair62
01-02-2003, 02:26 AM
I don't recall seeing a blue oval on anything but modern Fords...

JoeC
01-02-2003, 03:53 AM
The blue oval was on the cars since the 1920s (maybe before). It is Henry Ford's actual signature.

Belair62
01-02-2003, 01:50 PM
As a badge I meant....I know the actual script was always there but did they use the blue oval on cars ?

JoeC
01-02-2003, 04:50 PM
I know the Model A Fords (1928-1931) had a blue oval emblem on the front of the radiator shell.

Belair62
01-02-2003, 06:06 PM
Well I guess that dates back far enough !!! I have to start buying some Ford books....what was his name Henry ??

hvychev
01-03-2003, 04:42 AM
Joe I know this is kind of a goofy debate. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif I was going to put in my original post that with the exception the 20's & 30's era Fords that had the Blue oval try and remember a Ford with the blue oval from about the era of at least mid 40's to mid 70's. I can't think of one other than the graphics on the 70 Torino Cobra Twister Specials. And that was just a black matte sticker on the side of the body.
