Yes Bill I know it is a rear wheel drive with some horse power but
It should have had a body design of its own It seems to me
That Pontiac has gotten lazy My two sons have Gand Ams
One 1996 the other a 2002 and they almost look the same
Now the new GTO is coming in with the same design
need some thing new
Unreal

yeah, but GM is in the business of making money, not muscle cars. They did the best they could with what they had. The car is an exisitng body style from (I think) Austraila.

------Please understand that Im not the biggest fan of the design either. However,I read a story in one of the auto rags that put the design into some perspective.Basicly it stated that GM made a conscious decision not to do a retro design(ie:Thundebird,Beetle, etc.)because the feeling was"where would they go next".In other words the designers paint themselves into a corner as far as the next design down the road is concerned when they do a retro style design. With all this said,it does seem that they at least could have done a hood scoop.Whats a GTO without a hood scoop?????A friend with some connections at GM told me that they may have a scoop in 2005.
------My deposit is already down for one though. My underlying thought is to have the first GTO to go down to Ligenfelters for a serious dose of HP.What do you think?Hopefully Ill be able to get white,as thats my favorite color. Can you spell "sleeper"?.........Bill S......ol red!

That is why I have been watching the deployment of the GTO
For months
I guess it will grow on me Just wish GM do a little more with the hood
The interior looks good so far the colors are red and yellow
Hope there will be other colors

Hello. I am a lurker here, been a member for a year or so, but just like to read all of your posts since I don't have a musclecar at the moment. However, I do read a lot about the 4th gen F-Bod's and C5 as I own a 99 Vette Vert. And, through these forums I have learned that GM has a subsidiary in Australia that absolutely kicks butt (not to mention Ford's efforts). The big racing there is the Supercar Series (nice name, huh?) and it involves racing 4 door factory sponsored cars on road courses. The GM sub is called Holden, and they have some spectactular vehicles - one of which is the Monaro which has been around since the late sixties. And the Monaro is what the new GTO is based on, not the lame Grand Am (no offense). Supposedly they are much nicer in person and more distinctive from the existing Pontiac Lineup than the photos show. Anyway, I wouldn't count the GTO out just yet since they haven't been out yet. And if you look at the concept of the original GTO (take a mildly attractive mid-size body and stuff a V8 in it and it turns into a legend), the new GTO definitely lives up to that. They also have a hi-po program with Reeves Callaway - yes THAT Reeves Callaway - for specially prepared hi-po Holdens called HSV's. Guys, they are doing things right there. They have M5 fighters (near BMW M5 performance for a fair amount less) that GM SHOULD DEFINITELY BRING TO THE US. Check out the Commodore SS, the UTE (el Camino), Caprice SS, etc. at their website:
http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/vehicleselector
And the HSV site: http://www.hsv.com.au/main.html
Sorry so long, Mark.

The division is called General Motors Holden, if you do a web search on that, you may get the site. Plenty of good stuff on the Monaro there.
Car is made in South Australia (see Caprice 2002 disc )
The original Monaro, 2 door ceased production in around, 1978, and GMH has produced no two doors since.
The photo shown is not a good one.
Current colors here are silver, black, flame (similar to Monza Red 1970), hothouse (similar to Mopar green 1970), red, and bright yellow (like Daytona yellow )
the yellow and green are taken off of 1974 Monaro colors.
I think you will get tamer colors so white is possible.

Hey GMH454,

Just think of it as a rebadged Monaro .
We have a GTO version here but it is a HSV option with very big brakes wheels handling tweeks and 255 kw
I think you will like it in the flesh. The big difference will be in size and handling.
Not sure if your old Camaro had independent rear suspension ? Seem to remember reading that it did not.
Anyway this car will handle, very tight(thats why it has the pillar ) and responsive chassis
What power output did they claim for your LA auto show GTO

There is an argument currently on that no 454 left the factory, but there was a car body built for a 454 drop, and the car was built with special Australian Design Rules so it could be registered. car had full interior, badges lights, interior, etc.
Ran A-Mod and under the records of the day 74-75.
Ran 11.68 and had a ET of 132 (not at the same time )
The 132 indicates that our tracks had very poor traction as they never got the rubber build up US tracks got.
Car is currently being restored. Resides in my garage.

The GTO now has a 5.7 aluminum block rated at 340hp@ 52000 and 360 ft lbs of torque
Can be had with a six speed manual or a four speed automatic trans
There is a hit that there may be a 400 hp in the works /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif

That thing looks too much like the current Mustangs if you ask me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif I say go retro with the new GTO and have it at least resemble its forefathers, or don't call it "GTO". They can do better than an Australian carry over. A little more design effort should be put into a car like this than moving the steering wheel from the right side to the left side 'IMO'/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I really like it, would be better without the cheesy Pontiac nostrils, but I like it. The need to bring the 4 door M5 fighter, we need one of those, I need one of those.

Norm, Just got back from the New Car Auto Show (in Cleveland, Ohio) got to see the NEW GTO and I have (6) Pontiac Brouchures -- in the middle is a Fold-Out Poster of a Yellow GTO. If anyone is getting a GTO or is interested in the New Brouchure, I'll send you one for free just let me know. I felt the car needed something, maybe a nice hood. Glad at least GM brought it back and with the LS-1 engine and 6 Speed Available. Also 340 HP!!! Mark /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I think it looks pretty good too. Put kind of looks like the Avenger to me, which I also like. Big power makes me happy so I would go with it, especially over an Avenger.

------Cant help but look at the 64 GTO pics(nice car,by the way) and notice that it is somewhat of a day two car.How many of us bought a musclecar back in the day that we initially sort of liked,or maybe didnt like, but knew that with owner additions(ie;wheels, height adjustments, horsepower adjustments, shifters, extra guages, body mods, etc.)we would love that car?We may like em bone stock today, but not back in the day.So whats different about the new GTO?If it doesnt have your favorite hood scoop,Im sure the aftermarket will come out with a hood you love.If it doesnt use your own skills and make the car into something you love.If it doesnt have enough horsepower, send it to Ligenfelter,or add your own horsepower stuff.Nobodys aiming a gun at your head telling you to leave the car alone.I,for one,see the car as a canvas waiting for some brush strokes of my own to add a little spice to things!Just how I see it.Hope I havent offended.............Bill S
