Can someone please tell me what distributor cap came on the LS6 from the factory. Was it the brown R cap D309R part # 800061 OR the black R cap D308R ???
Thanks very much. /ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif

Welcome aboard,
It is the black D308R car with Delco Remy Patent Pending R on the top. Tell us more about you and please fill in your profile so we know who you are and where you are from.

Brown should be corvette.Shoud'nt a LS6 cap have a patent # on it, as late'67 caps had the pat/ # on the remy cap?
Tough subject as '68 was the "pat pen to pat# year for most chevys and a D308 [no R] are a nice find these days NOS.

I don't have my info with me but the patent pending # was not on the '70 cap and I believe it was not after '68 but don't quote me.

When our car was Diamond Certified last June, I had a 'runner' cap with Patent Pending and the pending number installed on the distributor. During judging, I was asked by the judge if I knew what cap this car should use. I said that it should have the Patent Pending Delco Remy R cap on it to which he replied, "then why you have the patent # cap on?" That little oversight cost my customer 10 points and me a bunch of embarrasment! /ubbthreads/images/icons/shocked.gif

There will always be controversy on this cap/engine application. It should be Black, but some very knowledgeable people argue it is the Patent#,vs.the Patent Pending R.
Don't forget the distributor RFI shield....

My 1111437 dist has a 2 piece shield that covers the points, is this what you call RFI shield. Is it rare? My 1111499 dist on my camaro doesn't have one. Should it?

That distributor came with that shield and it is very rare to see one still on a distributor. If it went through one points change, it was generally tossed. You are lucky to have yours. I do not believe the 499 distributor ever came with it but I may be incorrect.

I have a few of the Delco Remy dist caps and notice some have different size font of the printed words and one has copper contacts vs alu. Also I have read that some do not have the "R" on them.

From my understanding, the difference between the copper and aluminum contacts are steel body cars vs Corvettes. Also there is a letter difference in the 'D' 308 number. My info is somewhere at home.

You are correct there Joe...I have seen DELCO REMY PATENT PENDING caps....DELCO REMY PATENT PENDING R caps, and then there is of course the DELCO REMY PATENT PENDING followed by the actual Patent #. As it turns out, that is what my Fact of the week/month is right now...on my web page...with a very nice photo showing the non "R" cap.

That's a tough Ten pointer Rick /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

Thats a tough Ten pointer Rick /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

That's what 39 hours of no sleep and a 14 hour drive will do to you. I felt worse that I let my customer down. That 10 points hurt!
