I have a friend that has the opportunity too purchase a 67 Impala with the original 427 in it,anyone know how I can find out how many 67 Impalas were built with factory 427,muncie 4 speed and 12 bolt rear.I went to look at the car today,has some rust around the front and rear windows but all floors and trunk in real good shape,checked the stamp on the block after cleaning it and checked the numbers and the engine is original for the car,has the Rare SS hood with a very small amount of rust.My friend would like too know how many of these were produced.
Thanks

There were a little over 2100 SS 427s made. Neat car but very expensive to restore. rocker moldings, hood insert and body parts are very hard to find, even the air cleaner is a very difficult item. There is a fellow here in Wisconsin named Jon Krogh that deals in rare parts for 67 Impalas, anyone interested in restoring one of these cars should contact him.

BBIG,
SS427 (Z24's) are rare but 4-speed 12 bolts are actually quite common. I have 2 of the '67's as well as 68 and 69. I would be interested in the cowl tag info as there is a special code on there for the Z24 option. I do not need the Fischer body number if you are concerned about disclosing that but all other info is needed off the tag. What plant and build date are on the car as well. They are both on the tag.
Tom is right, these are horribly expensive to restore and NOS rocker moldings can cost as much as $2500, hoods with the insert as much as $3000 and SS427 trunk trim as high as $600 and that is just the beginning. Mine is on the back burner as I have more important things to do right now.
I would like to know more about your friends car as just like the LS-6 Chevelles, I have a pretty extensive file on the SS427 Impalas. Not to wear it out but these can can also be seen on www.impalass427.com (http://www.impalass427.com) . My Black '68 SS427 is on that site as well in case you need to see what the barges looked like back then.

The only rust I found is slight rust on the hood on the underside,hood does have the insert and it looks good,rust around the front windshield,around the rear windshield also,rockers looked and felt pretty good,trunk looked real good,floors looked ok,no rust holes that I detected,but could not crawl under car to see the bottom but what I could see it looked pretty good,a lot better than my 67 chevelle when I started on it.some dings on body,main one is the passenger door but could be fixed,again it does have all the 427 markings and logos and it all looks original too me but I am not an expert,marina blue exterior, and blue bucket interior,engine is original too the car because the vin is stamped on the front pad and it is very readable, and original not restamped,I will be glad to get the trim tag info and post it for you guys and the vin # also and any other info I can.My friend is going to trade his running driving 40 model chevy coupe for the car and get 3500.00 cash too boot,he has no money to restore the car but will only be able to make it a decent driver.Will be thursday before I can post any more info on the car.Car has a ton of parts with it,lots of original trim parts,new head liner,console did have a little crack on passenger side,has original multiplex and 8 track tape player,gauges and tach with a 120 mph spedo,not sure if trans is original or not .Also the car came out of a barn in Arkansas,and the owner that sold it to the guy my friend is getting it from is suppose to have the build sheet for the car.

Bobby,
Outside of the 8-track and the Arkansas barn, I would swear you were decribing my car. Good luck on the hood insert, they can be found but are a minimum of around $500 unless you can find someone who doesn't know what they have. I look forward to seeing the rest of the cars info especially for the Z24 code.
By the way, you are amoungst friends here and you can admit this car is for you and not your 'friends', these guys are pretty understanding with us barge guys. Just kidding. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif Rick

I prefer to refer to my 66 Biscayne as a Land Yacht, not a Barge! My land Yacht has beaten a good many small light bodied Camaros On Woodward, Telegraph, and Gratiot ave on Saturday nights in the past. I like being able to take the wife and teenage kids out for a cruise and be comfortable and yet capable of dealing with 70% of the street cars out there. Considering I walk with a cane it is much easier to get in and out of than my Camaro's. I wouldnt dream of the extra weight of a fog horn though. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif Motown /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Sorry MM...the Yacht designation was reserved for the more upscale Belair or Impala....Biscayne was designated a barge...we have been erroneously calling our upscale cars barges rather than the correct Yacht term.Mr.70 started the incorrect terminology I think.
So is it a musclebarge or a muscleyacht? /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Some say Potaato, some say Potato, call it what you will, to me she is a land Yacht. The first time I ever saw that terminology was back in the seventies on a personalized plate that said LNDYACHT that was on a 73 Eldorado Drop Top in Bloomfield Hills Michigan, which is definatly a upscale neighborhood, that being the case that would make the Impala middle class, and my Biscayne poverty. The way the thing goes through 104 Octane it will have me poor in no time. I spent a lifetime trying to get the car from my neighbor, now that I got it I am not sure I can afford to run the BARGE! /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif Motown /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

SS427 Biscayne weight
Marlin, that would be hard to say since they never made one. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif
However, an SS427 Impala will run in the 3900-4200 lb range depending on options. Biscaynes are going to be a couple of hundred pounds lighter. There is a spec sheet on this car on the Impala web site with weights for those who can't believe it. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Impala427,
Welcome to the web site but keep a low profile in here, us big bodied car guys have to keep it down. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif Also, please fill out your profile so we know who we are talking to.
The all important code is there as well as tinted glass, 4-speed, remote mirror and rear seat speaker to name a few. Some have said that the "D" with the "4" denotes rear window defogger. Both of my 427's have the D code and neither have a rear window defogger. This car sounds more and more like mine every day.
Tommy, I would like to know more about this car in TN. Do you know if it is a 4-speed or auto. If possible, get copies of the paperwork as well as complete cowl and VIN tag info. Thanks.
By the way Bobby, I was only teasing about you owning the car. Sort of like, "I have this friend who is pregnant and she needs to know............" Sometimes us Yacht guys are embarrased so I was only making fun. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Impala427,
Your car was built in St. Louis.
"168877S112934"
16887=1967 2 door Sport Coupe SS V-8
7=1967
S=St. Louis plant
112934=The 112,934th Chevrolet built at that plant that model year.
Also on your cowl tag next to the Fisher Body number is "STL" which is also for St. Louis.
For parts, call the number that T. Billigen suggested. Also post and add on the Impala web site as well as Chevytalk.com.

While we are on the subject, I have been discussing this with another sYc member, anyone see this before. I bought a '69 SS427 convert from the original owner in 1979 and thought nothing of it until I ran into a '69 SS427 Sport Coupe for sale in Mesa in 198? with the very same emblem. Only two I have ever seen. Sorry it is so dark but I am taking a photo of a photo. It is located on the trunk just underneath the Chevrolet script. Both cars also had the SS emblem in the center of the trunk.

The Z11 is my favorite Impala, a 409 is a close second /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif Yes my friend has 3 of them, one in restored race form (Allen Green Chev.), one in original race form (Ammon R. Smith - Old Reliable), and one fully restored to stock condition, (Enoch Chev (before it became Dana Chev)). They are all three in awesome condition to my untrained Impala eye, so I just love looking at them. This guy's collection is simply awesome, Vettes, T-bolts, R-codes, M-codes, Race hemi's, LS5's & 6's, Yenko's, 409's of every year - even a 4door 3on the tree! I think most guys on here like the big cars. Afterall that is where the COPO engine came from in 1969. Motion Performance sold the big car as one of their "fantastic five" and called it the "street racers special". The 68 L72 Biscayne was listed in the Motion ads for $2998.00.
