Anybody here interested in an original owner 1970 Monte Carlo SS454 non-restored (all original) car? Original paint even. I visited a guy hoping he had information on a dealer code for my car off his build sheet since his car was bought at the same dealer mine was. He asked if I'd put a feeler out if anybody is interested. He didn't give me a selling price yet but said about 8 to 10 years ago, he refused $10,000 for the car and wouldn't take any less than that. Before this gets too long, I figured I'd ask if any interest buyers. Has the original protecto plate and build sheet. Probably the Fisher code sheet as well. Interior has never been out of the car. The paint code is 25 which I believe is Astro blue. Build date is 10B probably one of the first Monte SS454's.

Rick,
Well, now that I've had a little time to read into his build sheet, it appears as though he has somebody else's sheet in his car. A couple of the codes alerted me to this like the battery space had R59 and his originally had the heavy duty side post R79 I believe it was called. Also the paint code didn't match. It listed 17 which I believe is Shadow Gray and his firewall tag read 25 which is Astro Blue. Also in section 107 it listed a L48 350 4 bbl engine. Then I got to the bottom for the dealer code and compared it to what I though my zone a dealer code should be and it was different. It listed zone 22 and dealer 711. My area is zone 04 I believe and I still don't know now what the dealer code was. It says this car was shipped to Wilcox Motor Co. Jeffersonville, Indiana. So somebody with a Shadow Gray 350 car, I know where your build sheet is.
Back to the Monte. I don't have any pictures of it. I went there to look at his sheet and not take pictures. He kind of caught me off guard when he said he'd sell it because I had heard about the previous offer and that he didn't want to sell. I'd have to get a friend with a digital camera to take photos since I don't have one and I don't have a scanner for my computer. If you want one, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Maybe today, if you get back to me early enough. I need to break him the bad news about his build sheet anyway so I'll be talking to him again soon. The car appears to be complete except for missing the original spare tire. Motor appears to be complete top to bottom and a lot of the little detail tags are still visible on the car. Maybe e-mail me or leave me a PM if you want more info. I don't know what RPO CD-3 is? Maybe if you tell me I can tell you if it was on the car. I saw the Protecto Plate with his name on it and the dealer's but no dealer code. I would believe it is the correct Protecto Plate for his car. He has owned it since brand new. Took delivery in October 1969.

I was just curious.Don't go to all that trouble.I am not a buyer on this car.You answered alot of my questions already.
RPO CD-3 is Electro Tip windsheild washer delay. It was a button installed in the end of the Turn Signal switch, and resembles Cruise Control from a distance.Only 331 Cars recieved it in 1970.Most were installed on Montes and Chevrolet Big car.
It was a Very rare option back then,as it was the first year to offer it.Today it is on Everything.

Rick,
I'll look tonight when I take pictures. Somebody else wants to see pictures so I'll have SS427 post them here when I'm done. I don't know how to do it! I borrowed a digital camera from a friend. I hope I remember how to use it and I hope the pictures turn out. Hopefully later tonight.

Here's the cowl tag info. Maybe somebody can help decode it. I'm not up on my Monte stuff sorry.
This is a real SS454 car in case you are confused. He had somebody else's build sheet in his car. His car is NOT a 350 small block car. Somehow, a different car's build sheet wound up in his car!

Here's what I decoded. 13857 (V8 Monte 2-door sport coupe) BL (Van Nuys, California)
757 (Black vinyl bucket seats) 25 (Astro Blue), B (Black Vinyl top)

The others I don't know! Pictures to follow.

Ron,I might be interested in the monte. I can see the car needs total restoration but looks like it is all there. I would like to know the options on the car. If owner wants a fair price and has build sheet, maybe we can make a deal. gary t.

[quote He had somebody else's build sheet in his car.
One thing pops into my mind on that subject. Way back in the '70's when I was a used car dealer and a car came in with a split or raged out seats we would go to the local boneyard and get a nice set out of a wreck to make the car sell better. So that could be one way that could explain the different build sheet especially if the date is way off from the car in question. This was a std practice in the used car business and is still done I am sure.

It is also very common to have a build sheet in one car from another car that was on the assembly line around the same time. There are members here who have sent me LS-6 build sheets as well as up to Three sheets from the same number of other cars on the line that they found in their car with their sheet so it is not that rare.

Very Common with GM as well as Mopars. But did quite a few interior swaps as Pantera suggests as well.

My Deuce had Build sheets in it from cars that were built the same day. One was even an L34 BB Nova! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Rick,
-------Red Alerts build sheet was for a convertable 5 serial numbers away from Reds. The build sheet was in the bottom of the drivers seat. What we have always thought was that the seat assembly was somehow damaged before it reached the car on the assembly line but after the build sheet had been added. The guy at the factory picked up the next black bucket and used it. Numbers and sheets were probably off on several cars that day until they brought another black bucket in to the assembly process to replace the bad one. Does that make any sense? It was the best we have ever been able to come up with........Bill S
