I drove one in Vegas. Didn't like the car. At speed it sure didn't feel stable and when you step on it try to get any traction at any speed. Nope... I would take my Carrera 4 with traction control and stability management any day. Drive the Porsche and you will agree..... /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

That doesn't sound right. Was it raining?

(Shor..noticed you have one in the garage!!) My friend and I rented them in Vegas. We both found it very very easy to break the back and loose..from a stop and at speed. It is a car I had thought of buying, but after driving it I changed my mind. (I have been to a few driving schools so I do have some idea how to drive. What do you think of your car?

ive had 3 vipers with my latest being a 99,
the cars stock will bust the tires loose anywere in first or second.after that she hooks up.
any speedshifting into 3rd or 4th will also bust em loose.remember this car has 500 pounds of tourqe.and 450 hp stock.just a few mods like exaust and intake kit and your about going to beet everything on the street with the exception of a few.check out vca.com ,there a few guys on there that have supercharged there snakes and cant even roll into the throttle hard until 80 plus or they will break loose. go there and check out the in car video of some of them.if you guys love the tourqe of the old big block chevy ,you will really love the v10/ /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

What is a triple black on a GTS? I thought it could only be on a R/T. Autoinsane I agree, love my c4 (black/black). I tried to test drive a new GTS but the salesman looked at my atire and thought me unworthy. I am going to Vegas next month and I am going to rent a Viper just for kicks. Their is nothing like beating the spit out of the other guys stuff and not having to pay for the parts to fix it.

Sorry I did not mean to put "Triple Black" In there. The car is Absolutely AWESOME.Smooth and powerful yet it felt very controlled. It will bust the tires loose throught the first 3 gears and i gotta admit can feel a bit squirrely when hunting for traction. But for me that is Cool /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif ...I would buy it in a minute

Hey Hoboken!
The car is a blast to drive. While it is a rear wheel drive car, I have not had and handling problems. It will "let go, at the rear wheels if pushed, but like all cars it must be driven with respect, especially in adverse weather conditions. I like the all wheel drive traction control cars as well, like your porsche and the x5, and the new caddy suv's.
I too have raced the car. The VCA had an event in Florida that we drove down to attend back in 97. We got to drive our cars pretty much to thier limits on a race course. I forget the name of the track(it was an old airstrip, anyone know the name?) about an hour from Orlando?

I have had several Porsches, they are great and refined. I have a 2000 Viper ACR (GTS). It is raw and fast, like a modern day version of the muscle car as it should be. As far as Smoking tires and Vague handling. Try a 69 L-89 Camaro with a set of Polyglass tires!!!! /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Robert,
Glad to hear it. I hadn't talked with you since before Christmas and assumed you were about there. Just don't let my buddy see the progress. He is still mad at himself for missing that car! I look forward to seeing it. Any progress on your research?
Rick

I am positive it is an original L-89 car based on information from the owner in 1985 (John). John was running a business that bought and sold Camaros and Camaro Parts in California. John saw the car driving around and stopped the owner and asked if he would sell the car. This guy knew nothing about cars, it was just tranportation to him. He was happy to sell because the gas mileage was killing him. He sold it so he could buy a Datson! Car was pretty original at that point. John does remember that the car had the deep groove pullies and 6,000 RPM tach, and the JJ code on the block. To him, back then, it was just another used Camaro that he could make a couple of dollars on. He paid $3,000 for it!!!

Where is that time machine when you need it!

I am waiting to hear if it will be invited to Meadow Brook Concours. Do you ever get out there?

Rob
