Dom,
I have 1001HA listed on a Build Sheet of another Hugger/Manaco Orange COPO Chevelle. Box 44 shows P XX for color.
Hard to beleive that most of the special paint COPO Chevelles were Orange.
The Canadian Papers also show 1001HA as just special order paint.

You have a copy of this Build Sheet for me. /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/icons/ooo.gif
Paperwork, evidence of original paint or, confirmation from
someone that knew the car early on. If none of these things exist you can paint it what ever color you want.

Place to look under for Org Paint --- trunk weather stripping/door vents on the front of the qtr panels/cowl vent panel if you can remove the fenders the inner Cowl Air box panels are most likely still the orginal color.

Someone clarify...did a car get -- if it was painted a color NOT available on that model ?
COPO PETE

From what I understand, yes, the car would get -- if it was ordered and the model did not offer that colour. In the case of the COPO Chevelles, the "SS" model had Daytona Yellow and Hugger Orange(Monaco) but the base models did not. So a hugger SS would have a 72 72 whereas a COPO got the --.

Strange how they had to -- a car to get it painted a color that was available within the same model line. Thanks Pete.
My theory is that some type of COPO or special paper work was required when a 69 Chevelle got the dash and no paint code. The COPO Chevelle was not an SS so required the dash but the SS cars did not need the dash for MO and DY. So there must be two types of special paint. There have been Carolina Blue SS cars found with dash and no paint code since it was a non listed color. On the Yenko Chevelle build sheet with Monaco Orange or Daytona Yellow there are three COPO numbers in a row. I like to call them triple COPO just to add to the confusion. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I know where there is a paint code delete Verodo Green(Pontiac Color)COPO Camaro awaiting restoration.
A good example was at the November Vettefest.
A guy pulls in with a 1970 LS6 Chevelle with Citrus Green paint.I thought he repainted it that shade, but upon talking to him it turned out his Chevelle was ordred new in spring of 1970 and requested to have code #43 Citrus Green Camaro Paint applied.
His cowl tag had --,an his buildsheet had typed in the center section" Paint entire body code #43 Citrus Green Lacquer Acrylic paint".
To me that alone was worth the price of admission. /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

The special order paint procedure varied by plant.
But certain colors weren't available all year, hence the -- on some cars.

Just like A A was the code for Tuxedo Black, O O was the code for Corvette Bronze and not a special order paint. Click here for a Camaro Research Group (http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#CorvetteColors) discussion of Corvette colors offered on 68 Camaros as mid-year additions - including Corvette Bronze, LeMans Blue, and British Green.

It means the car was painted a colour that was not available on that model. Tell me more about this car. Big block????? Chevelle or Malibu interior???? Is it an "SS"???

I saw A 68 Camaro in A salvage yard last summer with the OO paint code on it,wasn't much left of the car but I wondered how odd Corvete Bronze was. My 68 ChevyII with 07B build date is an AA (tuxedo black) car with Blue guts(737). Kind of an oddball combination I would think.

hey peter no this is not a big block car, the car was strip clean before i got it, the guy was going crush it, but i thought i could bring it back to life, so i gave him 150 dollars for it, so you can get a idea what it looks like, would this be considered a copo car just because of the special paint, also on the side of the car under the fender , i have seen vin numbers wrote in white chaulk there on many 69 chevelle but this one says( spec), anyway the car has drum brakes on the front,so i figured right off it was a small block car, what do you think this car would be worth , after a total profession restoration, this would e my forth restoration on 69 chevelle, so im getting pretty good, but i don't want to exceed the value of the car, thanks james p/s i was going to go back with 427 400 and 12 bolt
