Favorite B/J Muscle car

My favorite Muscle Car of the Auction was the Purple 1970 4 speed Hemi Super Bee. I know that its a MOPAR, but it was one of the best restorations I have ever seen.

There were quite a few board members there, so which one of the 500 or so Muscle Cars did you guys like best?

I must have had a heat stroke. I thought there were Super Bee Emblems on the car /ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif. I remember the Scat Pac Bee logo sticker in the 1/4 window so maybe thats where I got the "Bee" from.

I liked the 67 Fairlane 427 R code with the lift off hood.

There was a Nice Driver Quality 1966 Ford Fairlane, GT 390 4 speed. Red with Black interior and White Top. It had a '63 Vintage 427 with Dual Quads and was set up as a 427 Clone. Glass Hood w/hinges and all. Very Cool car.

It was a very solid California Car that now resides in Arizona. The guy who was selling it said that he owned it for 14 years.

Asking price at the was $26,000.00. The car was parked at one of the intersections on the way to B/J.

I like those 67 fairlanes myself. In the summer of 67 at Keystone drag strip I seen one of the these break an axle going into third gear, the car went end over end, ejecting the driver out of the back window. Luckily he only broke his shoulder. This was the opening day for Keystone and I think Brian Henderson and his father were there that day?

Without a doubt The "Lawman" Super Boss 429. I am Not really a ford guy at all- but the history of that car was in a class by its self. Car ran right until it got to the block then the plugs fouled. Goldberg scooped up the car off the phone from Japan. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif

The Shelby Cobra 427 that Carroll Shelby brought, CSX #3060. There is just something about the Shelby Cobra. No frills, huge engine, beautiful body, the blue is a great color as well.

Question: Was that car an original car or a continuation car? I thought it was original but the guys doing the commentary on SpeedTV said it wasnt. I thought all continuation cars had CSX 4ooo #'s ....

Anyone know??

I forgot about that GT40.....the body style on that one was a lot nicer than the roadgoing version they had out there too. Coolest headers known to man.As for the Shelby I am pretty sure they said it was continuation.

I really did want the Boss 429 "Lawman". It was down to me and the other Bidder. My last bid was $117,500. I may have kept going but the other bidder was responding instantly without hesitation. I knew he wanted it worse than me. This is when someone ends up paying too much so I quit. Didn't want the "someone paying too much" to be me.

The Lawman went to Goldberg on the phone and I was standing next to the buyer with Goldberg on the phone and was offered more money to sell it to a private buyer. I think he made 20+ without touching it !!! Nice day on the phone for five min.. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

Five minutes after The Lawman sold, a friend of mine was looking for the guy who handled the phone sale because he had a friend on his phone who was willing to pay Goldberg $160,000. Are old race cars with history that hot now, or was this just a one time thing?

I couldnt give this car away when I was asked to sell the Lawman a few years back for 90's.
Hope it goes to a cool museum with all the cool stuff they just found on this car. Tons of photo's

Who is Goldberg? I was told the other Bidder on the "Lawman" was a Professional Wrestler. It sounds as if I gave up too soon. I wouldn't know if all old race cars bring high dollars, but this one with it's unique history appears to have.

I thought the Lawman would go at least $150K as I have seen a few historical drag cars in the 150-200 range. The Lawman has a more interesting history then many of the other ones. That may not have been the best place to sell a car like that. here is a web site on the Lawman.

I am no speculator but I think this would have been a very good investment. This was very big news during the Viet Nam era and I think this cars value will like keep climbing. I can recall many stories my brother told me about these cars on his tour. Quite a history.

I think the next time you go to an auction, you need to have a satelite linked laptop so you can research cars on the spot. This looks like it was a "keeper". The "Lawman" Al Eckstrand was quite a racer while with Chrysler. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Kind of makes you wonder why Red Alert didn't get pushed higher. You'd of thought with all the model kits sold and national records, it would have had a more active reception at the auctions. Do drag cars need to have a blower sticking through the hood to be interesting? Or should the Chevelle been at Barrett-Jackson to tap maximum exposure?

My understanding was that the Lawman car was the display car they used for Promotions, not the actual drag car.

I don't think any of them were made for sanctioned drag racing. According to the web site there were 14 cars built for this serviceman training/awearness program. From web site........

I've only owned one Ford in my life, but I sure liked that white 69 Boss 429 Mustang. I know, I know, they run like crap but they sure do have visual appeal. And I agree with comments about the Lawman, way cool historical significance /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

I walked past the Hemi Coronet a few times. Never looked at it because I find the 1970 models unappealing. Wish I had looked it over now /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

Like Stefano said, the car was being bought for "PUFFDADDY", I think you know who that is. There were two cars we wanted to buy, the Hemi Coronet and the L-78 rag. We were willing to pay 125k for the Coronet but we were knocked out right away. We had a limit for the L-78 at 85k but the auction bug took over. When it goes up in 1K bids you feel the other guy will drop out next bid.
The old saying is you never pay to much you just buy a little early. I believe this car is worth every penny because even though it is alterd a little it is truly a 18k mile survivor with documents and all original drive train of one of the rarest Camaros built.
How many low mileage cars are there that weren't raced or blown up or pieced back togethe? A good example is the 69 hugger orange Yenko Camaro I owned. It showed 18K miles and sat in a garage since 1975 (see attachment license plate on the car when I bought it in 1986). This was truly a 18K mile car but after title tracing it and talking to the 2nd owner who bought it in 1970 I couldn't believe what it had gone thru in 6 months, and how much of the car was not original. I am not bashing this car because if I knew were it went I would try and buy it back.
We are trying to put a collection of excellent restored and unrestored original cars together. They will not be bought and sold for a gain like most cars are today. We are looking for more mostly high horse. We still need a Hemi car, A Boss 429 Mustang, But are open to any others let me know by private E-mail [email protected]. The L-78 is supposed to be here this weekend, anybody in the Chicagoland area interested in coming over one weekend and talking and seeing some cars and how the new garage turned out let me know.

In my opinion because the "Lawman" Mustang was shown on a specific episode of American Musclecar on Speedvision quite a few times, and featured prominently with Al Eckstrand and all kinds of vintage and modern day footage, this helped the notieriety of the car quite a bit, by the way, are they ever making new episodes of that show or Wet Dream Car Garage ???, been showing the same reruns for 2 years now.!!! just my 2 cents

Ok Mr.70 thanks. There is one you will enjoy seeing a 29K mile LS-6. Yes I did see the Chevelle conv. It was very nicely done and also worth the money. It had f-41 with boxed lower arms and a sway bar. I am still not convinced this is correct I dont believe it should haved boxed control arms.

from my reading the "lawman" was paraded to army bases to promote safety because so many young army men were buying these musclecars and while on leave wrecking them, hurting and even the loss of many lives. there was a big promotional campaign to drag it at the strip not on the street to risk safety. anyone heaard this story also?

One of the funky cars was the '56 vette that was customized in '59 with Lincoln headlights and the Hawk grill. It almost had a paint job that reminded you of a Motion car! I am suprised the Superbird did not go for more that it did. Some good prices on some of the stuff, but I lay odds that 9/10s of the high dollar stuff will be finding a home in a museum! /ubbthreads/images/icons/mad.gif

My father worked at the dealership where that ford was ordered.(refering to the car at keystone raceway).He delievered the car to the owner.The owner is still living and lives about a mile away from me

The name of that dealer was Bonarrigo Ford,they were located 10 miles east of the race track on RT #22 Blairsville,PA. The owners sold out a couple of years ago.The original building is still there.The son operates a used car store that they own across the highway. Ron
