What does 'pined in one cylinder' mean? This statement is contained in the linked EBAY auction, and I couldn't understand what he meant, even after considering the context of his description.

Wow I can't beleive this came up.Its a very old mechanics secret whereby large pine branches are bashed continuously into the chamber area of the head until smooth and round.Similar procedure to oaking but different results.

If memory serves me correctly (I hope I'm right) If a valve guide has a nasty habit of coming loose, they would drill the side of the head into the guide and put in a pin to keep it there.

Pete,
I have never seen a pinned guide(?) but have seen pinned
Rocker arm stud bosses or towers so that the High Tension springs did not pull the pressed rocker arm stud out of the head. This was very common on mild race small block applications were screw in studs were not used.

I thought that all HiPo Big Blocks had screw in Studs.

Hi: It's a method of crack repair were a hole is drilled in the crack, tapped with a special tap. Then a cast tapered plug is screwed in.If the crack is longer more plugs are overlaped along the crack.I have seen it done across the 45 degree angle of the seat but it's risky. This process can also be called stitching or plug repair.Best be carefull

Thanks for the definitions, doesn't sound like a good deal to me! I don't want to be racing JJ someday, and having some little crack turn into a big crack /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Haven't seen it but a few times a long time ago, but pins are driven into the crack. Had a head on a Z/28 done this way and it worked out good. Wes
