It's back on the market again after being hidden for quite a while. This is the car mr70 owned some time ago. Thought I would post it for those who have been looking albeit a little expensive.

Wow. Rick P is this the car that you owned that you showed me the pictures of where the original owner saw the car at the Chevelle show and became emotional when he saw the cigarette burn that he put on the seat some 20+ years before? How did you originally find/come across this car?
Thats this Chevelle Frank.
The Original owner was going to buy the Chevelle back for almost half the ebay starting price in July 1997.
He went and bought a New Corvette instead.
The Chevelle was found in Michigan where it sat for nearly 20 years until it came back here.
I wonder if Scott is still the owner on Title???

I still have Copies of 7 documents of Original Paperwork on this Chevelle. The Service inspector who signed the PDI still works there.

...............for a total of $4545.55.......... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The interesting thing about this and maybe mr70 can clarify, build date of 5/7/70 but a receipt at destination on 4/9/09 and a pre-delivery check off date of 4/13/70. There is a stamping on the build sheet of April 2nd so maybe the car was scheduled for 5/7 but the produced it early? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Welcome Steve.
Are you the Owner of this Chevelle,or just a broker?
If so where did you get it from?
I am curious where it has been since June 2000.

This car appears identical to one I recall seeing on the showroom floor at Richard Buxbaum's Classic Motors of Hinsdale (now Continental) circa '77, or so. I believe it had 2900 miles showing at the time.
Tenney
Thats this Chevelle.
I also have the issue of Hemmings Motor News from 77 advertising it for sale.
Richard Buxbaum also worked with Jack Douglass for a brief time.

Thanks for your reply, mr70. Would've loved to have scored that car back in the day (wouldn't mind having it now, either), but was 17 at the time and couldn't come close to swinging it. Would likely have more than 4k on it today if I had, though. And so, for survivor fans everywhere, perhaps it's best I was dough-free that day.
Buxbaum was cool to show me around, I thought. Think he had a '69 396/375 Camaro SS as a driver (silver/no stripes) at the time. 6k on the clock as I recall.
BTW - not to cast aspersions on a beautiful car, but was told there was a subsequent trailering incident involving the Chevelle. Appears to have been just a rumor, though, fortunately. Glad to see it's more than alive (and kicking, no doubt, on the rare occasions it's driven).
I don't know anything about a Trailer accident, but I do know it did get t-boned in an intersection back in the late 70's.It had to get a new hood, and Fender, and inner wheel well back then.
We did a owner history search to cooberate the story.
We found that these body parts were resprayed Lacquer paint back then. Also that oil psi gauge cut into the dashboard. Not meant to take anything away from it today,as it is a great Chevelle in my eyes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Perhaps the trailer deal and the t-bone incident are one and the same, mr70 (they do have the letter 't' in common), as the time period of the fender-bender that you referenced coincides with what I was told re: the trailer mishap.
FWIW, my story came from a fellow in S. Illinois (circa '80-'81) who had a '64 GTO showing 4k on the odo for sale. I'd seen this GTO at Classic Motors of Hinsdale a few years prior, and this lead to a discussion of various Buxbaum cars, Chevelle included, and the subsequent tale of the trailer.

I hope it wasn't because of the fender bender story....he missed a nice car if it was...I bet there are few if any cars that escaped with absolutely no bodywork in 30 years.

Steve,
You should have no trouble selling the car to another collector/enthusiast. I have seen some others sell in the same $$ neighborhood that were nowhere near as nice. Unfortunately, all the buyers on my list won't take green. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have already had more interest in the car, all from this site!!! Still don't know if I want to sell...Would be real hard to replace....seems to be alot of Low milage cars that have been restored? Why should/would you restore a car under 10K original miles? Might as well do a 110K mile car...it's only original once!! Just my opinion, I have nothing against restored cars in fact I have quite a few! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If you're looking for some support on the "Unrestored" side of the fence, count me in. Judging from the pictures, I see no reason to even consider it yet. I'll bet Rick agrees with me on this; without these cars, where do you get the information to do the correct restoration of the 110k cars? And, for what it's worth, I love the color combo! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Great Color Combo.
And could you imagine this Mist Green code #45 LS6, sitting next to the Citrus Green code #43 LS6,and Tonsors code #48 Forrest Green LS6.....I can. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Mr.70,
------In your owner search you missed me!I was the second owner,as I bought the car from Rick Morehouse(the original owner).I was the manager of Classic Motors back at that time, and had several other cars,so was short on money. That was how Richard B got involved.I had to borrow half the money from him.To the fellow who mentioned the L78 Camaro;when you were at Classic all those years ago,you were probably talking to me as the silver Camaro with the low miles was mine, not Richards.
-----When Rick sold me the car it had 396 emblems on it and was a fairly well known "midnite racer" out on the far west side of Chicago. It won a whole bunch of street races. What a sleeper it was!It had alot of non-stock parts on it(headers, elec fuel pump, drag shocks,10 inch slicks, and more).Rick had alot of the original stuff, but not all(smog was MIA).I took the car back as close as I could to stock.Back then the smog set-up didnt have the importance it does today,so I didnt bother with it.I got to the point where I didnt want a partner, but I didnt have the money to pay Richard off so we put it in a Kruse auction at Old Chicago that Classic Motors sponsored. One of our mechanics(a kid named Kevin)was to drive the car down to Old Chicago from Hinsdale along with several other cars we were running thru the auction.About half way there a drunk pulled out from a side street and tee-boned Kevin big time.As I recall,it wasnt the front that got damaged but the drivers side door and quarter. It buckled the roof,so I guess the damage was a little worse than you guys are aware of.
------Richard and I got a very acceptable settlement from the insurance co. and Richard then sold the car to a car salesman who worked for Billy Jacobs. He then took the car to a guy named Vic who,in my estimation, was one of the best body men and painters I ever saw.He was from Lockport Il. and when the car came out of there you couldnt have ever told it had been hit unless you started pulling the interior apart.Im pretty sure Vic painted the whole car,but cant ask him because he passed away several years ago.The salesman sold the car,and I heard that it went up to MI. and I lost track of it from then until 1999 when it popped up at Dana Mecums Arlington auction.By then Vics paint job had suffered quite a bit.The car went from there to a Florida dealer, and I think he told me he sold it to somebody from Minnesota so things sort of fit.If the Ebay pictures arent lying they certainly look better than the paint I saw at Arlington,so maybe the car has been squirted again.
------All the numbered and dated pieces were original to the car when it got wrecked, and appeared to still be there at Arlington.I have pics of the car somewhere that were taken the day I bought it from Rick......I just tracked them down and remember, now, that this car was one of the infamous General Tire cars(same as the 26 mile car).
------Im not sure what the old car is worth, but it is a true low mile, original engine LS6 Chevelle, with a tremendous amount of paperwork and prior owners who are still around.Hope I have straightened out some of the misconceptions and hope the car finds a very good home............Bill S

Wow it is simply amazing. There is almost not a single rare car that can escape the memory of someone that either knew the car or owned it. It is very interesting to hear these storys that come out of the woodwork. Two rare Chevelles have been discussed in the past couple of days by the 2nd owners. Bill and this LS6 and Andy and the Orange COPO Chevelle. Not to mention Scott and ZL1 57. I guess we should all be carefull what we say or think we know about our cars because who knows what the people who owned them 10-20-or even 30 years ago could tell us. Perfect example the 2 Yenko Camaros at the Super car reunion. I guess my whole point is research, research, research!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
BTW great info and story Bill!!

frank,
I fully agree with you! I DO want to know the Full history of my car (good & bad). I have recieved a couple of personal e-mails from fellow collectors that wanted me to know that they think the car is GREAT! and too bad about the negitive stories on this thread. PLEASE I do NOT NOT NOT feel that the history of this (or any) car is bad....Things happen....good or bad they just happen. It doesn't make the cars any worse or better! As long as things are fixed right and are not "passed off" or "incorrectly stated" does it really matter? To me this is not just a"hobbie" but a love! I'm thrilled to see so many others saving, restoring, and enjoying these "works of art". My hats off to those who can make money at it also....Steve /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Great story Bill, I should have known you were part of it's history. Any other stories or news you care to share.................. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
Steve,
All things considered, I would not take any of the comments as negative but just information to make people aware of it. Some of them are items I was not aware of and they do not detract from the value of the car in my opinion. There are very few cars out there especially ex-drag cars that do not have some type of battle scars hidden somewhere. Enjoy the car for what it is, an excellent example of a low mileage LS6.

------When relating old stories about old cars its often good to do a little digging even if you think your memory is perfect.Ive been informed that due to some posts in reference to this beautiful LS6(mine included)a deal for this car fell thru.At the time the accident happened,as you can imagine)I was rather distraught.I looked once at the car and never did see it damaged again. While talking to another Classic Motors ex-employee I have found that the damage was less extensive than I had(for years)felt it was.I truly wish I had done my homework prior to my post as a sale might not have been sidetracked.Steve,I apologize to both you and the Registry for jumping the gun and overstating the actual damage..........Bill S

Bill,
Thank you for admitting that you are human. We ALL make mistakes! No hard feelings here. That was over 25 years ago..... I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday. Most people would not have the integrity or the BALLS to admit thier mistakes. THANK YOU!!!!!!The car is a great original piece of low milage history.Your input and past ownership, history, and stories have put in some missing pieces. If you are ever in California, you would be most welcome to "play cars" in our garage.Steve M. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Steve,
I have shopped at your yard on Old Oakland Road before. I used to live in Milpitas. Anyhow, I own a low milage LS6 and I am currently restoring it. Would you mind if I took a few pictures of the "original" engine compartment. Rick can verify who I am with regards to my car. I have been following this thread and the one on TC's web site. I think you made mention that the car is at your work site. Is this not the car that was for sale at Kassabian Motors in Dublin, CA? I am sure I saw it there a couple years ago.

GB,
This is the car that was on display at Kassabian's. Brad is a good friend and I used to float some of my cars to him to help bring people into his showroom. (They get some insane prices for thier cars there!)The car is at my warehouse in Hayward..Call me and we will work out a time. I still don't understand why most people don't want to let others photograph or have copies of original docs. of thier cars? (Anyone care to explain?)....Steve
Steve,
I bought my green '70 Cuda 440 with a hemi 4 speed, and dana 60, from Kassabian Motors three years back. It is #'s matching, and is a very nice driver in a #2 condition. Brad was a real nice guy. I think he is the son of the owner, and he does the paper work after the deal. I used to stop by there now and then just to look around. Chuck and John were always cool to talk cars with! Kind of like going to an adults toy store if you know what I mean. I had a '72 Challenger there for sale also. I remember a few years back they were selling muscle cars like hot cakes! I think a lot of the dot com'ers / baby boomers made a few bucks and spent it on cars! This perhaps inflated pricing in the market. Natual case of supply and demand. No problems with that, but now I think inventory turn over is slow. The economy hurts sales... I have not been by there in a couple of years.
Thanks for leeting me get some pics of the engine compartment! I have a post in TC in the restoration Forum if you would like to view my progress of my LS6. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum30/HTML/000582.html
Having a true low mile survivor would be VERY helpful in getting as much information so I can get mine as close to factory correct as possible.
By the way you have a nice business in Milpitas. Another fun place to shop!

Just got on and read the thread. I won't bother to let you know that Greg (gb70) is a classic example of the LS6 and muscle car owner and has shared everything about his car with me (he should have, I help find his build sheet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif ) as you have already met it sounds like. He's going to have a winner when completed. I might add that you too have been great to work with in helping me with my research as well. This is what makes this hobby so enjoyable.

Greg what a nice ride!! It looks like you did a great job on the resto. Your lucky to have all the documentation. Hell for the heck of it I am going to check that same spot under the back seat to see if I could find a second build sheet! BTW Do you have the original drive train in your LS6?

That"s what this "hobbie" is all about...Isn't it? The Hunt, The Find, The resto(hopefully it is a mint original), Then the SHARING!!!At least that's the way I see it. Some people turn a 180 when it turn's into a buisness, and that takes the fun out. What's the fun of having a "barn" full of neat cars (or stuff) and not sharing them with others????...Thats the way I have meet so many neat people.Off my soap box If anyone needs any thing else photographed on this LS6 or any of my others..Send a P.M.....Also most of you know that I am looking to trade the LS6 for a YENKO please keep me in mind if you hear anything....Steve
Rick was one of the very first I talked to and I did a video for on my find. He has been very helpful from the beginning through most of the stages of the restoration. Very glad to have found people like Rick that contribute to the hobby! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif As for the car there is a post on TC that describes how I found it, talked to the original owners, dealership, and the numbers I found on the car. That was a new post for me a couple of years ago as I am mostly a Mopar guy that was wanting to learn as much as I could about Chevelles and my LS6. As soon as TC's site for tech is back up I will link that thread. OK, they are back up. Nice improovement to the web site may I add /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I was re-reading my older post and have since learned that the heads are correct and original. I had to find the correct #'s, dated exhaust manifolds, and smog device however. These have been found and are going back in the car. Here is the link. http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=002858#000002
After finding the buildsheet Rick helped me decode it.
I grew up during the late 60's and early 70's helping my two older brothers and thier freinds as they got into the muscle car scene. I will always have those memories. It is really fun now to enjoy the cars we grew up with!
Look forward to visiting this site more often.

Thanks,
All I can say is "that at the end of the day I sleep GREAT". It is funny though, All of the changes, damages, and corrections made to the car were done by the past owners....the same people who are e-mailing/posting things about this car. Strange how they forget to say that "THEY made the changes"..... also not too much mentioned about the positves!!!!!, (which out weigh the negitives 10 FOLD!!)I am finding out, that most people don't pass the FULL history of cars that they are SELLING, but let everyone know what they "think" is wrong with it, once it's sold.
I am so amazed that almost EVERY past Owner/Partner has Shown, Bragged about, Displayed, and Advertised this car as "Survivor" and "All Original", the list go on...When in fact, there have been some changes(expected after 33 years). Even after all it has been through it still continues to be a GREAT car!(IN ALL FAIRNESS NO ONE HAS SAID OTHERWISE)....Steve /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
