getting ready to possibly order leaf springs from Ron at McHenry, are they the best out there.??? Heard good things such as originality in looks and set up. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

From what I have heard, they are the best ones available. If you get them, let me know how the car sits with them.

This info is a year old but I had a few concerns then. The five leaf BB springs were banded incorrectly and the second ply did not have the GM embossed on them. The car sat a bit to high in my opinion. But the look of the spring was very good. I cannot tell you if improvments have been made, but Frank Payne who was working on the project was looking into the banding issue. Overall not bad, but not 100% either...BKH
Recently I began the search for a set of rear springs for my '69 Yenko Nova. After many calls, emails and posts, I was given Ron's number. Even though I have not had a chance to install them, they are certaintly a lot better/closer then any thing else I could find.
And, I must say, Ron is very easy to deal with. In fact, too easy. Not only did I get the springs, but left with a whole load of stuff for some other projects. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Brian,
We had one batch that had the clamps on the second leaf in the rear in the wrong spot. You were the one that caught that for me and it was corrected. That was only on the Z28 leafs. As far as height, this is a crap shoot for any one and all we can do is make the spring fit the factory print for an average car. If we made the springs for big block air convertibles they would all sit too high except those cars. We always tell people that there is a chance the car might not sit at the exact desired ride height. Sometimes they do need some minor re arcing but this is easy for any local spring shop. We strived to make these as correct as possible, but with as few of these as are being made the cost for tooling up for the number stamping is prohibitive. If these are not correct enough you can always look through 10 or 15 sets of originals to find enough leafs that aren't broken or partially rusted through to make a full set. Of course even when you finish doing this, the car still may sit too low from using worn original leafs. Thanks, Frank

Frank;
I think that is my problem. I have a really nice of original leaf springs on my Yenko, but I think it actually sits a little too low - and it may be a little uneven. I'm considering a new set vs. getting these re-arched, but I'm afraid the re-arched ones might make it look like a stagecoach! What to do?
Oh yea, do they come with thos cute little blue dots?
Marlin; If we do not like the ride height, I guess we could do what Ray Morrison told me did to his Harrell Nova. He re-arched his rear springs "with a sledghammer" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif.

That Ray has a way with hand tools! Very few folks out there nicer than Ray. Hey Marlin, aren't deuces supposed to set higher in the front?Mine and Jon's did when new. I got pics if I can find them. Schonye

I bought a replacement set, and used the primary leaf from it with the other four leafs from my original set. That way I kept the original look with the bumps. I haven't measured it, but the car sits a couple of inches high. I'm hoping it settles a little after it's run for a while.

I have one set of the repos and one set of originals if anybody needs them that I can sell. The original set has some pitting but ca be redone I am sure.

Schoneye;
Yes the Yenko Deuces should sit higher in the front, but I think mine is too high / too low in the back - and sometimes it looks lopsided to me. Maybe it's in my head, it rides fine, probably just me!

Marlin, when you get a chance would you measure from the ground to the top of the wheelwell in the front and back and I will do the same and compare. Anyone else with a Deuce could do the same and we will have our own survey. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gifJim (Would it be better to measure from the center of the hub to the top of the wheelwell to account for different tire sizes??)

Jim;
That's a good idea. I have the E70 14's on my car, but if you don't it would probably be a better idea to measure from the wheel hub. My car is up on jack stands at the moment so I can work on a few things, so that method would actually be my only option right now!
I have the ride height chart from GM to see how close we are, I believe there are two different ride heights - one for non-F41 cars and one with F41, but I can't seem to find the paperwork where I read that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Center of hub to lip of opening, rear 11", front 16". Approx 1/4" variation at corners but not much. Car has F70x14 which are a little tight. Still thinking about respringing. Jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Jim;
I finally measured mine last night! The left rear is 10" from the axle C/L to the wheel lip, the right rear is 10.5". I guess I am a little low and to the left, nothing too major though. I think I'll leave it alone for now, I have other things to change on the car before Spring finally arrives. Thanks for the comparison, it's closer than I thought it would be /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
