Can anyone help please. I am in the UK and I have been restoring a '68 Camaro for the last twelve years (well it was in a bad state!). After being ripped off by three different motor shops, I've finally found someone who has nearly finished the project. The problem is that they are unable to reassemble the convertible top frame and associated folding mechanisms. I'm sure all the parts are there but we have no diagram to refer to. We do have an assembly manual but this does not cover the installation of the springs, frame, rain channel etc. Bear in mind that the whole car was stripped to bare shell. Can anyone provide or let me know where I can obtain an exploded view diagram of the convertible top. It is manual not power assisted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Les, there are not any diagrams that show where how each part assembles. One manual that you need is a Fisher Body Service Manual that is available through most restoration parts vendors. There is a basic diagram of the top in there and it may help you assemble your top. It also gives specific instructions on how to remove/install the top cover itself.

I have attached a copy of that diagram from the 67 Fisher Body Service Manual as I have loaned my 68 one out. This diagram should be the same.............RatPack............... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Rat - Thanks for the diag. I've already got the Fisher Body Manual, Chassis Service Manual and Assembly Manual. As you say, there doesn't appear to be a decent diagram in these. I think we'll have to track down another car to see how it goes together. Thanks again. Les

Les, If necsessary I have a 68 parts car here that I could take a bunch of detailed photos of the frame which is still assembled and email them to you. Let me know.

Motown, that would be great. It's the frame to spring assemblies that I need to see. By spring assemblies, I mean the heavy springs that fit into the body cavity where the rear passengers sit. They assist with the lowering and raising of the top. My e mail is [email protected]
Thanks
