Mr 70, I am sure that is who you are looking for, at about the same time that Otis Chandler was on the top of the heap for Muscle car collectors, Carl D was also. I will try to get you his number and PM it to you.

Did Carl D sell off all his cars?
wasn't he was on a magazine cover calling him "King of the Yenkos" or something close and had something like 20 Yenkos?

Although I had know about the Yenko Deuce's for many years, it was that cover and article that made me start looking for info about the Yenko Deuce Novas. 3 years later, almost to the day, I was purchasing my Yenko Deuce which was ironically owned by: Cliff Ernst.

Both Dwiggins and Ernst are in TN and not NC. Carl D. did sell many of his cars years ago. Last I heard, he was messing with trucks. Cliff E. is still active with his Yenkos'.
Not sure about a collector in the Charlotte area that owns' a Capt. D. chain. Contact Floyd Garrett at www.musclecarmuseum.com (http://www.musclecarmuseum.com) Floyd may know the person that your trying to find.
Thank you to all of you guys.
I am following every idea all has given me.
I hope I find who & what I am looking for.....
I'll let you know if I do,Believe me I will. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

mr70 do you know Gilbert Propes? Year One hails him "THE Restoration Icon". He does alot of cars for Milt Robson and is a close friend of mine here in Georgia. I'll ask if he knows of a Capt. D's owner that has a collection.
Thank You CWilliams.
Yes I have read alot about those two.Gilbert gives a Fantastic Resto Seminar at ACES show in Goodletsville Tn.
Appreciate it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

NC, Are you sure Carl has never been in N.Carolina? I know my memory is not as good as it used to be but it seems I remember reading in a magazine about ten years ago that he was in N. Carolina. I am certainly not sure but for some reason that connection popped into my head. The article was about the same time that Otis Chandler was in his heyday in the world of muscle car collections. Buy the way, how is the weather down in NC right now... I have been thinking of taking a trip somewhere, anywhere for that matter that doesnt have three feet of SNOW!
Thanks,

I know that I am getting old, but I was certain that someone here would have remembered Carl Dwiggins was from N.C.,more specifically "Village Motors Inc., P.O. Box 751, Conover, N.C. 28613.
I recall several article about Carl Dwiggins collection which at one time was the best or certainly one of the best. I clearly recall at the time of the articles he lived in NC. I believe he was a car dealer not the owner of a Capt D's chain.
Motown, was sunny and 75 in Atlanta today. sorry to hear about your snow /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yep...your right and I stand corrected. I was given bogus info.
For years Dwiggins ran Village Motors Inc. in Conover, NC. I remember stopping there and talking to Carl. Heres the info I have:
Village Motors Inc.
529 1st. St. E.
Conover, NC 28613
704-464-6842
However, the phone # no longer works. Perhaps he has retired.
Carl Dwiggins was in in NC..some of you guys might be thinking of KC Spurlock who was featured in a lot of mags at that time..he lived in Tenn.
Believe it was CJ Spurlock and he owned a Brown COPO among others. He was a manager for some of the Country Music artists.

Hi guys, I live about 30 minutes from Village Motors in Conover and talked with Carl Dwiggins this afternoon. He has been out of the muscle car business for about 10 yrs. He does still have some parts that his son-in-law is selling for him on ebay. If someone still wants to get in touch with him PM me and I will try to help you out. Kevin

It's "C.K." Spurlock. At one time he owned a company that built sprint cars and he was the promoter/agent for Kenny Rogers. He had a nice collection of about 15 musclecars, including a couple of Z-11's, '64 Galaxie lightweight, '63 Swiss Cheese Catalina, and a JL-8 Camaro. I bought a brown COPO Camaro from him in 1988. It's in southern CA now. I think C.K. sold most or all of his cars after a nasty divorce and the decline of Kenny Rogers career. His son tried NASCAR and NHRA for a while.

K.C. "Hollywood" Spurlock. He was pretty good. Wonder why he didn't stick with it?

Mr. Spurlock also had a very nice '63-1/2 427 Galaxie Lightweight that now sits in a high end Ford collection here in Seattle/Tacoma. It's a top notch car. I hear his other stuff was nice as well.

Hey, y'all--
I know this thread is ~8 years old... I was just googling Carl Dwiggins and ran across it. Reminds me of a story...
I had read about Carl in Musclecar Review, and was in college in NC around 1991. One day I called Village Motors and asked Carl if I could come look at his cars. He said, "come on down!" Keep in mind, this was not a museum, it was a personal collection.
Shortly before I arrived (from halfway across the state), Carl's wife had a minor car accident (she was OK), so Carl was a little busy, but took some time to chat with me. Then his son-in-law, Bruce, gave me a lengthy tour. After a while, Bruce said he had to get back to work, but I should make myself at home and take all the time I wanted!!! He must have had 200+ cars, plus parts, in 3 huge warehouses, and he just turned me loose!
Here it is, 20+ years later, and I'm still amazed! What great folks!
Anyway, that's my story.
See ya!

Didn't realize the thread was so old. I was thinkin', "I thought KC Spurlock had passed on! Surely someone here would know that?"
Now it makes sense.

I don't know if CK Spurlock is still around or not, but I do know he used to own my big block pace car. There was a feature on him and the car in 1991 Musclecar magazine. Here's an autographed photo of his son Hollywood that came with the car. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/laugh.gif
