I want to know what temp these cars ran from the factory in traffic? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif If they ran hot will putting a Stewart pump or an impellar kit from Flow kooler keep it cool or maybe switching to a "BECOOL" brand raditor? They promise a 20 degree temp drop over OEM design /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I don't recall any factory hi-performance cars having a cooling problem. But I think that any car might have a cooling problem if it were to idle a long time in hot weather.

Our car never had a problem but our temperatures seldom get much over 90 degrees. Our L78 car will run perhaps 205 at freeway speeds when it is hot out. Over heating at idle has never been a problem in either car. Both have the 3 core rad. Cooling, with a high density 4 core rad, should never be a problem.

Most Cooling problems I have found with "Current" Big Blocks is restriction/corrosion in block,heads,radiator passages when they are not properly maintained or cleaned prior to a rebuild.

A block bored .060 over will run hotter than the same block at Standard bore. (for several reasons) also remember that more HP means more heat.

We actually had trouble bulding heat in our L-72 as it got later in the year. The culprit was the stock rebuild (10.2:1 compression) and the added racing fuel. As the air started getting cooler, I had to switch over to running premium (about 90%). I let the car cool for the first round at the Pure Stocks in Stanton, and subsequently lost about 2 mph...the next 2 passes were run with it really warm, and the mph came back.

The next L-72 will be the exact opposite/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif!

Actually my orange car ran a little hot. The guy before claimed to have the rad redone, but I'm beginning to wonder. If your really concerned about cooling, redo the rad with the coolong fins on 3/8 centers instead of 1/2 inch. Did that to my white car, and could'nt get it to run hot no matter what!
