Is it a 2 bolt,or 4 bolt block?
It could be from a 1970 454 LS5 Monte Carlo,Impala,or Chevelle,or Corvette.
Or a 1970 LS6 Chevelle,even a 1971 Model car.
Look for any signs of a 3 letter suffix on the pad.

its 4 bolt, LOOKS like TO9 112 DRK, maybe DPK. the D is for sure but the other 2 letters are questionable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Yep....mr70 is right

Al Colvin's book list this block as a 454 used in 70, 71 and even 69 in both 2 and 4 bolt configurations. Horsepower ranged from 345 up to 425 depending on what car it was born in. As stated, look for any engine suffix on the pad.

You may have a very nice piece there if its in good condition.

If it's a 4 bolt block,it's got to be a 1970 LS6 Chevelle,or a 1971 LS6 Corvette.
Chevrolet used the 3 letter suffix in mid 69 and started them with the letter C as in CPK.
DPK does not show in any car books back then.
There are MANY variances that it could be all the way into 1978.Or it could be a truck application?
It could also be the initials of the engine builder/owner/Mechanic.

I'am thinking truck application, but the stamped "factory rebuilt" means it could be anything 4 bolt IMHO.

Keep us posted if anything develops.

Whats it worth? Now thats a loaded question....grinning. For starters, determine the following:

1. Pistons: cast or forged? Flat top or domed?
2. Rods: what size crank bolts and nuts?
3. Crank: cast or forged? Any cast #s on it?

No doubt the experienced big block guys can add to this list. Perhaps they'll chime in and help.

ok ok, what would a 512 block with this date code be worth? hows that? by the way, it has a forged 454 crank......

beyond 1971 used a #289 block and #512 production ended,so you dont need to look beyond that if it is 512..
