Does anyone know about the 69 L89 car for sale on e bay # 2407931171? It's green and is the car below Charlies Yenko for sale.
Stuart, Now that's what I call alot of green, very well documented rare L-89 Camaro with the original motor yet. I wonder what it will sell for? I'll bet the reserve is up there. I also have a RS/L-89 4-speed just like it but in Dusk Blue with the SS wheels. We will find out soon enough. Good luck!

I was interested in the car five years ago and did alot of research on the car. I have copies of the documentation and spoke at length to the original owner. A very nice honest original car that needs some restoration.

Thank you for the info. I was wondering how many of these cars are left with documentation? These documented cars seem to be very rare. I have a 68 L89, a 69 L89 would also be nice, just leary of authenticity most times, especially on e bay. Thanks.

Wow, looks nice.
that ralley green color is neat! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Not sure if I like the green top on this car. I think a rear spoiler would make the car look better.

Seller states "This car is listed in the L89 registry". I have never heard such a thing. Anyone know about such a registry?

Yes, I got an e mail from a Kurt S. last night and he has a web site (registry) that he states he has documentation of 20 69 L89's and 4 68 L89's. He wants the info off my 68. I will try and post his web site later after work. He states the ebay car is real .

Kurt S maintains the CRG website which most if not all of the members here most likely have saved as a favorite. Outstanding page.

I know of the registry, it was being kept by 2 L89 owners. Not sure of how many cars are in it or if it is still active. The CRG maintains a (research) database, but we don't want to get into the 'registry' business. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Anyone know what the "error in the listing" was? I see the owner pulled the auction.

Last I looked reserve was met and it was over 51k !
WOW!!! This morning when I looked it said auction was ended by seller due to an error in the listing. It seems to be going fine now!
Nice car. Notice the window sticker has the dealer code in the right top corner, can't read the number or name of the dealer, but you can check that info with Chevrolet. Maybe someone can remember the car, if the dealer is still around.
As long as the doc's are legit, very cool car to have....

That was a pretty Cool car with great paperwork. I think I would value that car right up in COPO territory.

CHARLEY,
I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU SINCE THEY ONLY PRODUCED 311 OF THESE ALUMNIUM HEAD CARS. HOW MANY DOCUMENTED ONES EXIST?

By the time the car is correctly restored you are at the $90K investment at the lest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Yup. So is an L89 RS/SS car worth 90K(not counting conv)? I guess the new owner feels that all the documentation will help make it worth that. Seems a little high to me, but then every time I say that, someone pays even more tomorrow.
Jeff, I think I remember reading a real nice restored 1969 Camaro L-78 convertible sold at B/J auction for $96K before fees. A very well restored convertible L-89 should bring that plus 10% all day. If its a R/S your looking at even more cabbage. Lets face it these L-89 cars are really becoming the buzz in the Camaro hobby. You get that all aluminum look on the top of the motor for only one third the price of a ZL1. Check out the link below to review my Dusk Blue R/S L-89 I'm currently restoring. Thanks Maxx! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://www.coast2camaro.com/Camaroprojects.html
Wasn't there a 1969 L-78/L-89 Maroon Camaro Convert. recently featured in SuperChevy?
I agree, the L-89 is a very sought after option in any Chevrolet car.In 1970 only 18 L-78 Chevelles got it from the factory, and one has been found with Doc's to back it up.The Owner would have sold this car very reasonable in the last few years.
Today the line forms to the Left!

The Burgundy L78 Convert. that was just in Super Chevy was the same one that sold at Auction in Monterey last Summer. It has just changed hands in the Mid 80's. It is not a L89 though. How many real L89's has anyone ever really seen ? I have seen alot more COPO's and Yenko's, even ZL1's. The colors, options and paperwork on that one made it pretty Special in my opinion.
It is all in the paperwork. A nicely done 427 Camaro would sell for about 30K to 40K but with iron clad paperwork showing factory 427 or hi po dealer built history the price will increase 3 to 4 times. I have not seen many documented L89s (any model).

What about a doucumented 69 Chevelle L-89? Where are they at. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
Thats right,that Camaro Convert. L-89 wasn't a factory built L-89.Still a good price though.
I have seen a few 1969 Chevelle L-78/L-89's but never any doc's to prove the ones I saw.
This 1970 Chevelle L-78/L-89 I referred to,I have the Buildsheet on.The RPO of L89 is clear as a bell and looks to be Authentic.I did a Past owner search back to day 1 and It all checked out.
The pix of the Car today show it under going a Frame off as we speak.
I am curious to see what kind of price it will fetch on the auction Block???

------In 1975 I heard about a 1969 SS El Camino with aluminum heads and,of course,I followed up on the rumor, and ended up buying the car.It was still in the original owners hands and had been in storage for at least a couple of years. It had 15000 orig.miles and other than tires,carb(orig.included),dist(orig.included),and mufflers it was close to perfect.Put what original parts I had back on and it actually got faster.Never had been one thing put in the bed.Paint was flawless.Car looked like it had 1500 miles.Same for chrome, interior, etc.
-------Option list was as follows;black on black, bench seat,guages,tilt,C+C,M-22,F41,4:10,Posi,PS,PB/disc,tint,L-89,L-78,and radio delete.Probably forgetting a few.
-------Sold the car to Joe Hrutka(Mr.Gasket fame)in late 1976 for what I thought was the princely sum of $6500.I know,I know.Dont go there. He gave the car to his kid because of an impending divorce and I had a chance about a year ago to buy it back for $50000 and sort of reluctantly passed on it(lack of funds). The kid was selling off the cars to finance the downstroke on a Dairy Queen in Palm Desert Ca.Really,I heard this from a close source!!!!
-------Where do you guys feel this car sits on the value scale if it is all I say it was?..............Bill S

I have a documented/restored 68 L-89 camaro. Do you think the 68 version is worth more or less than the 69's? There are less of these cars so assumption would be yes they are more valuable. But do they fall in the same category as the 67,68 Yenko's ( fewer made but worth less than the 69's).
Just curious!

Here is an interesting shot as far as tires go.I have never seen this combo from the factory, taken as very early 1970 dealer promo shot of a 70 ss Velle....... Goodrich Formula GT ,is this a unusual tire?

I had a 72 SS Nova that had the original Goodrich spare. see pic. Mark
AH...The Scuncio Catalog.
Still waiting for a copy.
Those tires were one of 5 brands possible with the 1970 Chevelle:
Firestone,Goodyear,Uniroyal,Goodrich,and Generals.
The first three were the most commonly used.

So if the L89 now becomes the next hot Camaro after the COPO, Yenko and ZL1, what would an RS/SS L89 with JL8 4 wheel disc brakes be worth?
Belair62
04-01-2003, 02:19 PM
Those won't be worth very much now or in the future so send it to me and I will give you 20k to take that dinosaur off your hands ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

i thought the JL8 was only put on the Z28's??
Jeff H
04-02-2003, 02:19 AM
Nope, it was available as an option on any car. I've heard of a 6 cyl car out west that had the option. As for the L89 RS/SS JL8 car, it appears to be a legit car from what I've heard from the guy. He has no intention of selling it since he's had it since 1974. Would that be the rarest 69 Camaro then, RS/SS L89, JL8? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
