OK, I wanna play too. Not an LS6 car but it was my dream car at the time, I was 16 years old. 71 Heavy Chevy, 350 2bbl, bench seat 4-gear with a Hurst shifter welded to the Muncie stub. Two trophies are from Lapeer drag strip(MI). 14:46 and 14:52 best times when the rear tires weren't bouncing off of the wheel well lips. "Jacked Up" was cool at the time. Traction bars, crude as they were, came later.100 octane gase was 35 cents a gallon and even at that price I had to borrow from the neighbors car...

I posted this in here previously under a similar thread, but we'll do it again. Had this car built and picked it up in December of 1969 from St. Remy Motors in Kingston, Ontario. Traded in my 69 RS/SS Camaro (it had been rearended at a stoplight and never was fixed right). This was a 396/350 car with TH400 and 3.31 posi. As you can see, I definitely wanted a different color than what was the norm back then. Had this car for a little over three years and still consider it one of the best daily drivers I ever owned. Traded it in on a 70 Caprice (daughter was on the way). This pic is from 1971 at my borther-in-law's wedding.
Nice Pictures guys.
Don,I always Like that picture. The Pom-Poms on the wheel centers are a nice touch.
I wish I had a scanner.
I have over 100 Prototype pictures of the 1970 Chevelle & SS model. These are all in B&W and color with Red and Black and Gold SS Chevelles featured.
I also have 8X10 color photos of the 1970 National Sales Convention, and Detroit Auto Show.Showing ALL the new Cars on the Show floor and the 1969 Camaro models still carried over.
These are very bold and detailed with engine, interior and trunk shots.Someday I will upgrade and share them with all.

Broke an axle at Seattle International raceway this day. Didn't snap clean though. It twisted in a small spiral before separating.

Okay its not a Chevelle. But is my first Hemi Cuda that I used to race at Seattle Intenational Raceway. It was bone stock except for tires.

I spent a lot of time at Seattle International Raceway. Just came down from Alaska and was going to College in Seattle. Had Alaska plates on all my cars. The Announcer always made reference to me as "The Alaska Kid". We had showers at the track one day and I ran 108 MPH on a wet track. He was impressed, but I told him I learned to drive on slippery roads, as Kodiak had snow half the year.

Dennis, yes Black is great! I really like yours without stripes as well. That was a bold move to order it as a stripe delete; it is very classy/stunning. It is very special that you kept it all original.
As with a lot of young guys wanting to go faster, I did everything you could, by modifying mine. Couldn't un-bolt the smog pump fast enough (went in the trash can /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ). Built the Motor, balanced blueprinted, 12 to 1 pistons, bigger cam (but don't remember the specs), accel ignition, hooker headers, ebdelbrock, front lift kit, rear hi-jacker air shocks, NMW Ladder bars, 4.56 gears, etc. Basically, everything the way Motion Performance built cars, but did it myself.

Kevin,
Not so much a bold move as an act of desperation. The stripes were a part of the CI package and that meant $$$$, something I didn't have. Same for the buckets, console, gauges, etc. Low budget operation in 1970. We did go the route of Tires, Wheels, Headers, etc. for a while but luck was with me in keeping most all of the original pieces. Thank God I didn't trash an Air Cleaner or distributor! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
So did you start with the LS-6 engine or something else? Sounds like you had a major investment in aftermarket stuff.
Frank,
It wasn't these pix I was referring to. Wait 'til you see some of the others. I'm still looking!!!

Here is a picture of my Dad's 66 Chevelle he bought new. This picture was taken at the Hillbillies Car Show in Knoxville TN in October 1967. He had already removed the snorkel from the air cleaner and chrome the rest. Also chromed were the hood hinges, hood latch & catch, heater box cover, all engine brackets, pulleys, and other misc parts and pieces. He also removed the paint from the upper and lower radiator tanks and polished them out. And we wonder why it is so hard to find an "untouched" car these days...............RatPack................
Oh the car was Willow Green, black vinyl top, bench seat, 4-spd, 396/360hp, "knee knocker" tach, wood wheel, AM radio. I came home from the hospital in October 66 in this car /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif...............

Ed, Dad traded it in November of 67 on a new 68 SS396 Camaro. I did a title search years ago and found that the Chevelle was totalled and then crushed. His Camaro is still around however but is no longer anything like original..........RatPack..............

This is about 1985, when I finally purchased the car ($3500)
The car had a blown 427 (not the good kind of blown)
My son (in the picture) is now 22. I yelled at him the first few times him and his friends pulled engines in the driveway. I wonder who he got that from?

Mark, really cool pics. I saw your car at Vettefest a couple of years ago and I think that you had the pictures displayed back then to. What does it say on the side of the door?

Frank, when I bought the car it had the original paint but the doors showed thru to primer. Then someone gave me these pictures to explain the thin paint-it said "Johnny" under it a bowtie and 427 then Geneva, Ohio. The original owner was John Kranuer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif Thanks, Mark

Mark, after re reading the Muscle Car Review feature on your car again, did the original owner ever give you the paperwork on the car or is he still holding out?
mhassett
05-07-2003, 02:36 AM
Frank, I see John (original owner) all the time BUT he will not talk about the Chevelle!! I have heard around town that he feels he is going to get the car back some day!!! Well, I would RATHER have the CAR than the Paperwork. It was SOLD NEW at Evans Chevrolet in Painesville, Ohio. They were big in the high performance cars, they also sold some Copo Chevelles and Camaro's.

Wow! Mark you have had the car nearly 20 years and you still haven't given it up yet! I gues you can't knock him for trying!
BTW I love this Chevelle! The red stripe and Cragers do it for me.

Not a race car but this Chevelle has been in the same spot/covered for the last 7 years that i know of. Took the pic tonight while I was making the trip around the block with my 6 yr old. Family member of the homes owner that has moved to the mainland. Person didnt have a clue as to what was in the engine bay. Seemed to like to talk so Ill go back Sunday. Similar Blue white strip Convt Chevelle 3 blocks the other direction and yet anyone one a Plain Jane 67 Chevelle within 3 blocks also.

Thats a 71 or 72 Malibu. My guess is you'll find a 307 or 350 2bbl and automatic on the tree in that one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif Let us know what it turns out to be.
