View Full Version : 1970 BM Camaro slides
My good friend is coming over this Saturday. His brother bought a brand new 1970 BM Camaro in 1970. He has about 40 slides of the car. Some really neat close ups too from what I am told. How do I convert the slide to digital pictures. I know I could put the slide in the viewer, then take a picture of it on the wall, but there must be a better way.

I'm thinking Wal-Mart or other film development places can do that, and can print them and/or put them on a disk for you.

Some scanners have a negative/slide adaptor.

You could purchase a slide scanner from CompUSA. The best bet is to do what was recommened above---take it to Walmart, Wolf or any of the other "bigger" photo processing places around and they should be able to put them on CD for you.
i am going to comp usa tonight. if all goes well i will post the pics on saturday!

I meant CompUSA as a generic term...
Searching www.compusa.com (http://www.compusa.com) I don't see that they carry one.
Searching Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/Detail.asp?m=1581&cat=1588&scat=&e=11188590) shows that they carry 1 brand.
Also, Circuit City (http://www.circuitcity.com/frame1.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1659559200.1049287629@ @@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadchmfljfhjcfngcfkmdffhdffh.0& upper=head.jsp&lower=frame2.jsp&left=leftdept.jsp& right=verity_search.jsp&inleftcat=Shop+%26+Learn&p roductType=1&search=SLIDE+SCANNER&qp=0) shows that they carry another one.
Did you find one last night?

I actually just did this for the Vintage Camaro Pictures thread. I took my slides to Wolf Camera and had pictures made of them. After that I scanned them in. I would think you would have the option to have it place on a disk. Cost of slide to picture was 75 cents each. Anxious to see these! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I bought the scanner with the slide attachment! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

He is going to log on over the next day or so and give the full story on this special car. He asked me to reserve drdrill as his screen name, which I will do right now.

Shor,
Great pictures! Any chance you have any of the heartbeat of the car? That would be great.
drdrill???? If he is a Dentist, remind me to stay away from one with that name! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Ive been looking at these pictures and trying to figure out if the car had the FAIRLY rare VF-3 bumper option with the rubber impact strip across its entire face. This would have been the only way other than a Z-28 for the car to have the rear bumper guards. Seems like an unusual option to order for an otherwise all out performance street car........Chuck S/Seattle
ill ask him...does this help?

Is it just the angle, or does it look like the SS emblem is upside down in the grille? Seems odd Motion would remove and reinstall the grille badge upside down, but it sure looks goofy to me in that last pic. Any thoughts...

By 'long gone' .. do you mean it was sold long ago or was it destroyed in an accident? Beautiful car....
Bill
Sad.....The car was stolen when it was only a year or two old. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif These slides, and fond memories, are all that remain. His Mom threw out these slides years ago during one of her basement Spring cleanings.
His younger brother Paul, my friend and the photographer, still living at home at the time, was going through the garbage at the curb looking for the baseball caps his mom had tossed also. He came across these and saved them.
While not that clear, they are a special treat.
The funny thing was Paul tried to talk his brother out of buying that car from Joel. He told his brother it was a ripoff and they could build the same car, if not faster for less money.
I told him the response the slides had generated on our site and he was thrilled.

Yikes! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif Pretty ambitious for a 10 year old. Sounds like he should be called the "SupercarKid." http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif Great pics Chris, thanks for posting. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Finding real original pictures is more difficult then finding real cars. Not as expensive though

Would it help to post the VIN of the car so someone might be able to search DMV's to see if the car still exists? Or do you think it would entice someone to produce a fake BM?
(I guess if someone is really interested they could contct the orig owner)

Thanks for posting the slides Shor. I flipped when I saw them---what a KILLER car. And the photographer was only 10 years old! (He reminds me of me.)
It seems that those cars were at the top of the list with car theives in those days. I read an article in a 1982 Camaro magazine telling the story of Joe Oldham's 1969 Phase III Camaro that he bought new in '69. He lived in an apartment and the Camaro was kept in an open carport! He thwarted the first attempt by car thieves but they finally got the car. I think he only had it for a few months. Joe wrote for CARS Magazine and the staff was close to the Motion operation and wrote many great stories on B-M cars in the late '60s.

Funny you say it was stolen, I remember Joe Oldham, one of the staff at the old Cars mags, had a Phase 111, that was stolen. No wonder there are so few of these survive.
Thanks for the PICS.
